AP go to TopWater Lures are White or Black Super Spooks...

Mike, I find that when working birds I try and work the leading edge of the school. The bigger trout like AP said can be coaxed up on a topwater but I tend to use plastics when working birds

I've had luck getting the big ones with a corky or corky devil as well. Toss it on the other side of the slick, let it sink and work it close to the bottom. If there is a big one in the bunch, she nail it.

I caught alot of fish under birds this year so far and when we were on them it didnt matter the color as long as it was dark. Then again the water was very off color so it makes sense. I think the bigger fish do hang on the outside or towards the bottom when under birds, same as fishing at night under lights. I also think the closer we get to summer you dont catch as many quality fish under the birds, more dinks than anything. I do like trying the TopWaters or Corkys to trigger bigger fish bites

I don't really chase birds that much to know what I am talking about but the times I have, its pretty much any plastic on a heavier jig head.

I'd give up chasing Pelicans and concentrate on the Gulls

All of the birds that I have caught fish under this past week have been gulls.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

The Pelicans gave up the locations of the bait in the water last weekend. The'd fly just over the water and bait was scattering everywhere almost like they were toying with them until they would make the plunge to break their necks and get them one. Most of the time it's following gulls. I do soft plastics but target the edges and bottom too.

Hmm, I've always thought that the jighead weight and retrieve made way more of a difference than the color. That could be it.

I don't think it matters to much on the color, depth is a bigger factor like what has already been said. I'm pretty sure you could throw a gummy bear on a hook and catch a fish. I fished the birds for a little bit today though and the best bait seemed to be red/white plastics.

Exactly... the challenge is getting under the dinks... also try throwing around the edges of where there feeding...

My experience with pelicans is they just help to find bait for you... especially on windy days wind bait is hard to find... fish typiclly wont be under the pelicans but they are usally around the area. i jus wade around until i find the nervouse bait or bait jumping and get after it.
