Channel Markers...Volunteers Needed!!

Okay, April is usually the time of year we do our annual channel marker replacement. This year we'll touch up the Pirates Channel as it was done just before Ike.

I want to focus on some other areas in West Bay but need your opinions on areas that should be marked. Now when we mark the channels / cuts we do this properly with Green & Red reflective tape respectively and the pipe sticks up a good 3' off the water.

1. Old ICW through Confederate Reef all the way in between N & S Deer Island.

I have already bought the reflective tape and just need to purchase the PVC.

What other areas in West Bay would you all like mark?

Well it would probably be Saturday & Sunday possibly do it the weekend of our club meeting which is scheduled for Friday April 10, 2009. So possibly April 11 & 12.

I bought 4 rolls of red & green its expensive stuff but well worth it for safety sake... I've thought about going around and marking the Geo-Tubes but man that's a PITA. Its really needed in front of the state park.

Another one would be to mark the channel over there at SLP...i'm talking about the main one running east-west that runs through to Bird Island.

I wouldn't mind doing it but I need some other people out there that know that area I've never run that way by bird island.

The two concrete blocks just outside the Pirates Channel need to be marked on boths sides with reflector tape. During high tides they disappear and could be potential danger for boaters at night. They always scare me. Coe, let me know how I can help. Albert

AP and I went to SLP and we went through the channel all the way to the bridge. I marked the whole channel on my PGS, so we can use those points to guide us. I can help out some on either Saturday or Sunday, but can not spend the whole day on the water because the family will be in town for Easter.

Another spot I think that needs to be marked with either this tape or bright orange spray paint is the sunking shrimp boat by SLP.

On the hazards we can use 3M White/ Red reflective tape... www.gemplers.com is where I get my reflective tape the 3M stuff can probably be found at any autoparts store...
