Closing the gate at moses kills the fishing there. And the 4 pounders were starting to show up. My favorite fishing grounds ruined for the fore seeable future. Damn shame.

Just have to come up with a plan B. Hopefully it wont be too bad in West Bay, maybe around the causeway or Virginia point area. I wonder how it will affect the Sea Wolf area next fall? I guess time will tell.

I spent the last 4 days out at our place near SLP. I didn't watch the news or listen to broadcast radio. It was sure a surprise to me this morning sipping coffee waiting on Cheeta to come on hearing about the oil spill.

I sure hope it can be cleaned up for the most part and surely hope it doesn't make it all the way down to our area of the bay.


Damn shame for sure.

So seriously, what can we expect to happen to our fishery? Will we need to plan other fishing grounds like Louisiana or the southern Texas coast. I don't know what to expect from this.

Its time for me to put in my 2 cents worth on this subject. I guarantee that Im going to offend someone and to be honest..... I don't give a damn if anyone gets upset. I have personally worked in and around the marine industry as well as the petro chem industry for most of my career. This "ACCIDENT" is not what it seems. We do NOT just have a spill by KIRBY.... What we have here is a total lack of care and regard for OUR bay system and eco system on OUR coast line. This all starts with KIRBYS SAFETY AND ACCIDENT RECORD. which is a complete F#%KING joke. Its easy to find if you contact the Coast Guard public records. But really all you need do is punch in KIRBY OIL TRANSPORT ACCIDENT AND CITATIONS ON YOU COMPUTER. Its a hell of a read. I spent some years of my life running as a highly UNDERQUALIFIED crew boat captain. I totally lucked into the job when I was younger. However several lives where put in my care. I faced many dangerous situations that thank lord I didn't cause any accidents or injuries. 99.9% of these transport companies do not even require experience in a specific vessel. if your license is good, well then your good too. These vessels exceed port speed constantly. Their captains (HA) generally have their deckhands at the helm during standard running(FACT!). Their maintenance of their vessels are nearly non existent with the exception of the loading hoses(WHICH ARE MANUFACTURED BY SOMEONE ELSE BY THE WAY) KIRBYS EXCUSE SO FAR----- FOG! FOG? seriously? YOU HAVE A HIGH RANGE AND LOW RANGE RADAR *******. NO KIRBY----- LACK OF TRAINING, LACK OF DRILLING, LACK OF SOP PROGAMS, LACK OF EXPERIENCE, LACK OF MAINTENECE,.... What this company has done is even further interrupt what is already a very very fragile bay and coastal area. Don't let them get away with just an apology... Open up your mouths and get pissed. Get their license pulled. Fine them to a level that they have to close their doors. Make them pay funds to EVERY COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN, RESTURANT, AND GUIDE For a 200 mile radius from the initial spill sit. DESTROY THEM UTTERLY. This is our Bay. we as anglers and conservationist have always gone the extra mile to keep it clean and safe for our children's , children's, children. DONT let all your stories and hard work be for nothing. Don't look you grandson or granddaughter in the eyes one day and have to explain how beautiful it USED TO LOOK. let them see it for themselves.

Another hyped up event for the media and government entities looking for a good fine. And lawyers to go sue.

JT. No offense but are you high or something. If you allow this 160,000 gallons of high viscous master diesel oil to be just casually forgotten. What's your next compromise? This is not just a small incident. This alone has the potential to cost Galveston and its surrounding communities a lot more than clean up fees. Look up the ingredients and poisons in master diesel oil or MDO for short. Then go to the dike and pull you a trout outta there and feed it to your family. If its such a non incident prove it with your conviction. This is disastrous to our eco system.

JT, i remember when the pleasure pier folks were tossing their construction trash into the gulf and you blew that off too. I half agreed with you on that one but you are dead wrong here.

There are gonna be extremes on either side. You are gonna have the super tree huggers crying over every bag that blows out of a truck bed, and you will have folks that think thousands of gallons of toxic sludge dumped in our bay and gulf (which the enjoyment of is the common ground we share on this site) is no big deal at all. I'm just thankful that the majority of people fall in the middle.

Look, everyone would rather it not have happened, but it did. It'll be cleaned up as much as it can, and we'll go on. I'm sure there will be lawsuits over EVERYTHING, and a bunch of lawyers will make millions. Everyone "cares" it happened, but impassioned hand-wringing isn't going to help much.

They say we learn from our mistakes. My suggestion in the future is really simple. Shut down barge traffic in the fog. Problem solved.

No excuse for hitting each other with today's technology-sheez, the radar even shows the other boats around you nowadays and not just a blip on a screen and secondly EVEN I CAN READ A RADAR SCREEN!! Someone uckedfayed uppay and will pay dearly for their mistake.

Bad news is all those lower Galveston bay guides will crowd into West Bay!!!
