  • West bay gas

Im getting close on the marina gas and i want to get opinions. I have a choice of the quality of the gas, ie..regular, plus and super. im hearing alot of people wanting plus and super because they burn much cleaner in regards to the ethanol problems. i can set it up for just one grade or all of the grades. carrying all the grades will cost me alot more and im thinking just carry plus.

can someone post a poll as to what grade they prefer and we'll get after it.
    regular
    plus
    super
    all three

Hell JT...just do the plus grade. You'll be the last on the water gas stop from there till Freeport, and if they don't like it then screw 'em, they'll just run out of gas anyway.

Go plus...people will buy it when the need gas on the water, and it saves you money in the end.

the gas will have ethanol. Regular works just fine-check your owner's manual. Just be sure to add the dark Stabil and make dang sure you pour that stuff in BEFORE adding gas-it'll eat up your filler hose.

Higher octane runs hotter, which could be bad. You get better mileage, but it is not necessarily better for the engine. No outboard manufacturers recommend anything other than regular unleaded. Just food for thought. I know I'd never put anything but regular in my outboard.

Now we might be able to bicker all day about regular/plus/premium, but I don't think any of us will disagree that ethanol is the DEVIL. It would seem to me that an over the water seller would be considered strictly offroad and they could get non-ethanol gas. I don't know much about the business though. I'm certain that the all knowing government has messed this so far up without asking us (Sounds like some other stuff going on lately) that it will be impossible to get it right. I do know there are differently dyed and differently taxed diesel fuels. Marine fuel is sold to the distributor at the same price and there are no at the pump taxes paid, but marinas typically put the screws to the often desperate boaters anyway, so you end up paying an exorbitant price even without the tax. I'm sure fair pricing will be part of what you do. I'm just speaking of others who routinely charge a dollar or more over the on the road price.

I have to agree with Sandy... Regular all the way.

                      JT,

Ive seen at some higher end marina's in florida where they have an automated water draw that works every 12 hours or something like that. Are you gonna have something liek that?

the problem im learning about buying ethanol free gas is that its very limited where you can purchase it (if at all)and i believe that is out of state. so deliverys are a problem.

I believe we are using the best filtering system we can get Thomas. You'd probably have to move alot of gas--a whole lot more than what will be moved here in a 50 slip marina to justify a system like those you speak about in Florida.

ill price the gas in the mix of what Harborwalk, the yacht basin and others that sell on the water here.

Thought you all might be interested in this article. This is what I have always heard also and stick to it, but you got to do what ever gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

The world of outboard motors has changed quickly, and suddenly there are three different kinds of engines on the waterfront: four-strokes, fuel-injected

Great article Tejasreds! More support for 87 octane. Oh, and keep using your Sta-Bil and or Seafoam or Ring Free.
