    Cougar Saltwater Open Fishing Tournament
    Saturday, May 8th, 2010
    Galveston Yacht Basin
    Galveston, Texas

“Let’s Help Highly Talented Academic Students Enter College”

I am pleased to inform you that the Jack E. Wilson Endowment for Books of Humor (UH) has been invited to join together with the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication Alumni Association (UH) in holding its fourth Annual Fishing Tournament, the Cougar Saltwater Open, on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at the Galveston Yacht Basin in Galveston, TX. Funds raised from this event will benefit the University of Houston’s School of Communication Alumni Association’s scholarship program for future and current undergraduate students, as well as, general alumni programs including the Jack E. Wilson Endowment for Books of Humor.

Jack E. Wilson, Welcome W. Wilson, SR (brothers), and Jack J. Valenti were Class Mates at the University of Houston, Business Partners, and Friends

By attending the Cougar Saltwater Open, there are a variety of ways to help support these students, plus receive benefits for your business:

    • Become a Title, Cougar, or Red Sponsor. Descriptions of benefits are listed on the attachment titled “Sponsorship.” Filling out the attachment titled “Registration Form” will secure your spot.

Our Goal is to attain one (1) $5,000 Title Sponsor (only 1), five (5) $2,500 Cougar Sponsors, ten (10) $1,000 Red Sponsors (corporate or individual sponsors), and 120 fishermen/fisherwomen/children. If we all pull together, we can achieve this charitable Goal. Your help is graciously needed and very kindly appreciated. **All Sponsorships are aimed to be in by April 23rd.

    • Donate a raffle item valued at $100 or more. You’ll be listed as a generous donor on signage at the event for each item donated. Mark your interest on the response form, titled “Auction Raffle Donation” (attachment), turn in, and a member of the committee will contact you.

    • Donate collateral items to support the event. You can also donate items, such as paper goods, food, beer, entertainment, ice, etc.

    • Attend the Awards Dinner on May 8. An Awards Dinner will be held that evening, recognizing the Tournament Champions and this year’s Scholarship Recipients.

Dinner/Entry Tickets, those not entering the fishing tournament are only $25 each and can be purchased by indicating on the Registration Form (attachment).

This is a wonderful opportunity to show support for the University of Houston and the memory of Jack E. Wilson, who was a proud passionate student and member of the University of Houston Alumni Association.

So, please mark your calendars for this special event on May 8th. I have attached the appropriate documents for you to review information with the forms to fill out. If you prefer, you can register at their website: www.cougarsaltwateropen.com

Either way that you register and if possible, please let either John Wilson, Ryan Wasaff or I know if you make a donation by sending a small message via email or by phone, so we can keep accounting. Also if you will, please notate on your check in the memo line: J. Wilson Endowment. If you prefer to just attend the event, please refer to the attached Registration Form.

Jack E. Wilson, who is my Grandfather and my Biggest Inspiration, whole heartedly enjoyed vacationing in Galveston, boating, fishing, bird watching, great humor, robust political engagement, historical referencing, cooking, West Galveston Island resort developer, his band, and playing the piano. More importantly he was a family man that always took the time to organize fun times for everyone he was around.

The Cougar Saltwater Open would be a great choice for family and friends to get together and continue to build those important memories. Let’s begin the tradition in honor of Jack.

Invite and bring, as many friends and family, as you would like and I hope to see all of you at the Cougar Saltwater Open!

    Kindest Regards,

Guys, I've already committed FishWestEnd for a $500 level sponsor. This includes 4 entry fees. I would like to do 1 off shore team and 1 in shore team.

Those willing to participate please post up. I will cover the first 4 entries with the sponsor. Guides are allowed so let's put together a great winning team for this event and represent West End Anglers well

Ideally I want 4 people inshore & 4 off shore. If we decide to do 2 inshore teams so be it... But I'd really like to get 1 off shore & 1 in shore to cover both sides of the Tournament

I think the best of the best should represent FWE. We have a lot of good fisherman and quality guides and experts on here I know we can put together a great team.

Being a Cougar Alum and having known Jack and Welcome back in the 70's, I gotta be in on this (inshore only). Pimp, if you haven't already committed, let's talk.

Weather permitting, offshore will not be a problem if you still need someone. Are there boundaries or is Boomvang/Nansen for tuna and big fish okay? Feel free to get in touch with me if you would like to discuss more.

I'd like to have an off shore team... $65 / person and really I don't have the boat to take a big group 22' is dicey with 2-3's

Weather is the only worry, if my buddies Whaler at the Yacht Basin is not available I have a 34' Venture docked in Port A I can trailer up.

I'm going to let Steve Soule fill everyone in but to say the least the team we filled for the UH Tourney walked away with

Heaviest Stringer, Heaviest Flounder, Heaviest Red

I think we won 3 out of 4 divisions.

                              Great jobs guys!!
