  • Over 6,000 Galveston Flounder

Well the fruits of our labors are paying off. I got the pleasure of attending the Sea Center Banquet for the volunteers last night in Lake Jackson.

After the awards were given out, a small group of us got over to the facility and got to see the baby flounder.

This is a teaser report and picture of a tank holding over 6,000 flounder that are ready to be released in Galveston Bay. The biologist are wating for the right time, preferably after all threats of freeze to release.

A large number of these fish were spawned from the 100 or so flounder that were brought in for the Lutes Marine fishing tournemnt series on Chocolate Bayou in 2009.

This will be the 1st release of flounder for the Galveston Bay system.

Thanks for all of the FWE members like: fisher_of_men who came out to lend a helping hand at the Lutes Events.

    Way to go Bryan!!
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Awesome. We all appreciate all you do to help the fisheries. One question though. They release them that small? Wouldn't more survive releasing them a little larger or is it too hard to keep them in tanks that long?

Bryan, You and the rest of the volunteers down there are DA MAN's. Thanks for all the effort that all of you contribute!! You are making me feel a little guilty though for not helping. What can I do from here on to help with any of the great programs that Sea Center manages? I need to give more back to the fishery and community.

Thanks again dude! Let's go catch a lunch with Vien this week and you can bring me up to speed on where I can contribute.

funny you should say that as I asked what the ratio is from male to female ...

At this point the sex has yet to be determined ..... according to the biologist

Is this a one time thing or ongoing?

I thought I remembered reading that the water temperature at conception played a key role in determining the sex of the flounder. Any truth to this?

This will be an on going thing, and this is only one of the Tanks for Galveston.

I believe they have over 10,000 flounder for Galveston.

Water temp. plays a role, but there is different theory's of when and the reson why the sex is choosen.
