It's not " jumping over the sides " into the water part that gets ya as much as jumping into the boat. I think that's what TROPHYTROUTMAN is saying. Eventually it becomes more like an artic nature show with walruses trying to get onto an ice flow. And by the way, the probbing the bottom part--poke around the bottom where you are bailing out first... guys have landed on stingrays . Not a good way to start a trip. Rays are more likely to be in a mud bottom too.

Until you learn the spots you want to fish, fish with a friend and make him hop out first. If he dosen't sink you should be fine to wade that spot.

Be sure to check the area that you plan to jump out.

Had FishFinder check mid boat the go off the back of the boat into a slight depth change from mid boat.

Look at depth gauge and jump in, that is how I learned West Bay so far. Hook and line like Chip said and I have high sides and use a waders ladder. Don't try and jump into the boat after a long day wading and the water might be high, so it makes it hard to do.

stake out stick doubles as a push pole/ or a bottom checker
