Between the narrows and the mouth of new bayou is a good spot and fairly protected, sometimes! Good luck

It's not " jumping over the sides " into the water part that gets ya as much as jumping into the boat. I think that's what TROPHYTROUTMAN is saying. Eventually it becomes more like an artic nature show with walruses trying to get onto an ice flow. And by the way, the probbing the bottom part--poke around the bottom where you are bailing out first... guys have landed on stingrays . Not a good way to start a trip.
