  • Hopping Out Of The Boat

We just got a boat this past summer and so far have not hopped out of it yet and had a few questions.
1-Is there a website or map that tells you what the bottom like in certain coves or ares that we may want to wade?
2-Do those of you that have boats with fairly high sides have wading ladders of just jump back in?
    Thanks-TT

Use the Hook-N-Line map and it shows you all the good wading areas.
http://www.hooknline.com/ You can get it at Academy.
      I have a flatbottom and don't have a ladder.

Yeah, HOOK-N-LINE wade maps, and get out and see. Coves are more likely to be muddy and the farther back you go the boggier as a rule. Some more than others. I like my long ladder, but I'm 60 and 5' 7" and over weight. If you are young and it's not so deep, you can jump on in. But, that can be a problem with a boat with high sides.

I would just poke the bottom with your rod to find out what it's like. Wading ladders are nice but they are pretty $$$, I just jump out of the back and use the motor and the side of the boat to push myself up. If you have questions about any cove pm me, I spend alot of time in all of them.

lubbock and jamaica beach? those are about as far from each other as you can get in this state.

Poking your rod in there is great until you hit a shell and chip the insert or break it out......Ask me, I know! I would suggest you use something other than your rod tip.

I've broken more tips doing that Chip lol.... Yall use an old VHF antenna, I've broke 2-3 in 2 years so let me now if anyone needs one. A Stake Out Stick works well also.

Feel the bottom with a stakeout stick or a push pole before you go overboard.
