  • Do we have a lawyer in the house?

We've got a dentist, a roofer, a painter, real estate folks, operators, tug captains, rocket scientists, etc. on here. Do we have any blood sucking lawyers?

With my mom's passing, I've been thinking about important stuff that I need to take care of. I'm more than old enough to have a will and I'd like to take care of this before Summer. All my lawyer friends are either passed or in Louisiana. So I need someone here. There's not much money to be made from me, but I've got a cool place on the water to offer trips to. If you're interested in helping me out, just send me a PM. - Sandy

Remember how much you like me when you draw up that will , dear friend. I helped pay for that Indian arrowhead clock someone here on site made for the cabin . I think it had arrowheads and I at least offered to pay for it .... The point is I'm your Bosom , Unreconstructed Rebel buddy . Wait a minute , I'm much older than you and will go to my eternal reward before you . Rats , I'll just weasel my way over to your cabin while I can. But , seriously , I have 3 blood sucking relative attorneys , one of which drew up our will . He's an estate attorney and is very reasonable in regards to fees . Your will should be pretty straight forward without any Swiss or Cayman Islands accounts flying under the radar I presume . I'll get a fee estimate if you would like . I'll see him tonight .

Super simple Henry. Very little money, a house, 2 cars, a boat.

Sandy, go online and do it yourself. Later, when you are super rich, have a Lawyer review and update. I have stayed in a bunch of Holiday Inns.

Holy freakin' cow. I would never have thought something this simple would cost that much! I was thinkin' $200 as a worst case scenario. $300-500 is indeed out of the question. Someone mentioned something on-line. I think Vic's wife got something like that. I'll check with her. A will should be simple and cheap. You write down who gets what, you have it stamped by a notary for $10 and you're done. What a messed up planet we are rolling around on. I do thank you for checking that out for me Henry. I might have wasted a day going to someone's office just to find out I can't afford to do it.

On-line is what in did for my Will and also did a ( DNR ).
Went by the church and the lady in the office is a Notary. Everything was free.
You also need at least one witness if I remember correctly.
There were 2 other people there, so I was able to get both to sign.

Got a link or what I should search for on-line? Most of what I've found ain't free or cheap.

Unfortunately there's nothing simple about it - no matter how little you have or own. The good old government has seen to that for us.. I'm in the process of getting one done for us as well. Probably be about 400 by the time it's done. My buddy died back in July without a will and his family is still struggling to get everything straight. Lots of money and heartache later the state still essentially owns all of his estate and belongings and his mom and sisters are stuck with the burden of trying to prove who should have it. 400 bucks is not a huge price Sandy if you can potentially save your family the same heartache.
If you're into doing it yourself they probably sell a software kit that is designed to walk you through the process.. I'd check at best buy or hastings.
