But again itsboom , your dealing with something that wants a better deal then your average Fwe member
Pretty sure you're just joking but I'm gonna guess the Sandy probably isnt in the best of spirits right now and legitimately doesnt have a bunch of money to throw at this. Take it easy..
You can buy the program, WillMaker, that quicken sells for about $50 or go online to http://10minutewill.com/ for $69.00.
And no, Mike, you can't blame what lawyers charge on the government.
I think I can actually - If it was simpler to deal with from a federal or state standpoint they wouldn't have to charge so dang much. Not saying they wouldn't -- because they have no soul -- but they wouldn't have to..
It's just like you getting charged extra for extra parts in your reel cleaning..
Deano, I'm cheap because I have to be. I don't know why you think it's funny, but carry on. I think I do a good job saving where I can so I can do fun things from time to time. Perhaps you could come take a look at my finances and let me know what I'm doing wrong so I can start living the high life and splurge on everything.
And thanks for the link Bruce. I'll check it out now. And it is the government's fault. Don't worry, both parties are at fault I'm sure.

The government didn't have anything to do with the extra charge; the reel cleaner did. It would be more accurate to blame your troubles on the exorbitant fees lawyers charge instead of that old right wing canard "Gubbmint".

This got deleted because someone was being a jerk. Some of y'all were being very helpful though, and I appreciate it. The link Bruce posted looks the best so far, but I'm interested in other options before I make a choice. I'm opening it back up because I appreciate those of you who are willing to help and I have a feeling that others can be helped with the same information. I thought it would also serve to show how NOT to act when someone comes on here and asks a question. Lurefisher's posts are exactly why many people have left other boards. Sad because he can be such a great guy. It's just not the case right now. I have no idea what I did that he thinks I peed in his Cheerios.

Use an Elder/Estate attorney and pay the price. under 18 aged kids make it more of a concern on the documents. Then, if you or wife get incapacitated or unable to attend to your affairs either physical or mentally it really gets technical.
The guvmint enters in when you reach this stage, no matter what the family says or does.
Best example I can give you is if either of you get the Alzeimers disease. And long term care and housing is needed.
Handle it all now while you are young and in stable mind.
Things in life change and can change quickly. A one time proper prepared will and directives is a treasure to family members when things hit the fan.
An elder/estate attorney fee become priceless. Its an investment.

Sandy...Im not giving out legal advise because im not a Liar, I mean lawyer.
Until you decide how you want to go about it; draw up a holographic(handwritten) Will yourself. Write the entire will with no typing and sign it. You don't need a notary nor witnesses. Remember that it ALL has to be in your writing and any typed words or sentences will void it.
This isn't a big deal at all, esp with a small Estate. Just state its your only Will and direct how you want your assets to be given to your devisees. The gubbmint doesn't step in and seize your property if you were to die intestate anyway. this is a myth. The Laws of intestate death (decent and distribution) determine what happens to your assets.
Ive run Oil and Gas titles for 35 years and have seen as many intestate deaths as testate. Robalo has also and he will tell you the same thing.
Then go see an attorney and have him draw up a simple Will. a first year graduate can do this on a small estate.

I am a blood sucking lawyer and I do wills and related documents. You may be surprised to learn that many people with small estates do not need a will at all. Both of my parents are deceased and neither had a will. As they got older they added either myself or my brother as co-owners of assets including bank accounts, vehicles etc. These simple steps can save a lot of time and money. I am happy to give more detailed advice at no charge.
I charge $350 for a will packet that also includes a power of attorney, a medical power of attorney, and a living will. There is nothing wrong with trying to do it yourself. If you go that route I will review it for you at no charge. I may however require you to give me a hot spot or 2 to catch some trout. Hope this helps.
