  • Bad Weather = Time for Atari

So while I was home for Christmas, I met up with an old girlfriend of mine from high school. She gave me back my Atari 7800. She borrowed it 23 years ago! I can't believe she kept it. It even survived Katrina in her attic! With all this bad weather, I reckoned I'd hook it up and take a trip to yesteryear. DOH! Everything was in the box but the cable and switchbox. I found what I needed on amazon, and it's killing me waiting for it to arrive. For those not familiar with the 7800, it's an improved 2600. It plays all the 2600 games, plus the improved 7800 games.

Now I'd been having a lot of fun with an Atari Flashback console I keep at Mom and Dad's, but all the games on it are pretty lame. No Pitfall!, etc. I'm psyched to get back to one button gaming. Too many buttons on the newer stuff.

Anybody out there a fan of Atari? What was your favorite game? Mine has to be Pitfall!

Finally, if anyone actually has any old games lying around, I'm interested in acquiring them if I don't have them already. Though she saved the system, some of the games are missing. The one I miss the most is the 2600 version of Star Wars: The Arcade Game.

Wow, can't believe none of the people here remember Atari. I didn't have one until they were passe' and you could get cartridges for less than $5, but my neighbor across the street had one and we were there all the time when it was raining or too cold to play outside. I still remember when he got Pac-Man and his dad let us hook the Atari up to the COLOR tv! It was amazing to see Atari in color and the colors really helped to offset the fact that the game really sucked.

By the way Willie, PONG was high dollar too when it came out. It was a predecessor of Atari.

Choplifter was a favorite. I hated Asteroids, because it was set up such that you could never win.

I was shitting in my diapers when atari was on the way out. Never owned one but played on one. It sucks. Original Nintendo is a better antiquated gaming system.

My all time favorite is Tempest. I know it was an Atari arcade game, and I'd gotten a PC version.
But not sure if it ever made it to the 2600/7800 platform?

Intellevision was sweet, remember playing the baseball game with my dad for hours, in fact we talked about it over this past Christmas as he was sharing our long and heated battles with his granddaughters, Believe this console came out in 1979/80. Dad is 75 now and still plays video games. great memories!

Pitfall was mine. Did you know on the Atari Jaguar they came out with there was a new pitfall game with a way to play the old one.

my brother and I would get into all out fights over that. Once I was drumming my dad so bad; my sister, mother and brother were laughing so hard and giving him a hard time that he stood up and stepped on the machine intentionally and shattered it.
