My brother and I went fishing Sat because it was the only day available to us last week. I have a 17 ft center console with 90 Hp E-Tec and we were anchored in 2 ft water between two parallel reefs that are about 50 yards apart. The reefs were under water but you could see their shadows so they probably were only 6-10" deep. I looked up and saw a about a 20' center console coming straight at us at a high rate of speed. I thought surely they were going to run aground but it must have been a tunnel hull because the boat ran over both reefs missing us by about 30ft and just missing my cork. The boat never slowed a bit nor did the two young bubbas in the boat even look at us.
Now this is just half the story. About two hours later we were anchored in 5 ft of water about 10 yards off the end of a shallow underwater reef. I was casting crosswind to the end of the reef and my brother was fishing downwind behind the boat. A couple of boats had passed us but both boats respectfully veered away and passed at least 100 yds on the side opposite the reef. Then unbelievably here came a large center console that passed over the end of the reef where my cork had been, stirring up mud and then cutting my brother's leader, never slowing down or even looking at us. Now I am 82 and my brother is 70 so we don't look very menacing but the guys in those boats couldn't know that when they decided to pass that close to us at about 35 mph. We could have been two NFL linemen for all they knew. What ever happened to common sense and courtesy?
