  • Weekend weather...heads up!!

Issued by The National Weather Service
    Houston/Galveston, TX
    4:51 am CST, Thu., Nov. 19, 2009
STRONG LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPING AROUND THE MATAGORDA BAY AREA FRIDAY MORNING WILL MOVE TO THE NORTHEAST OFF THE TEXAS AND LOUISIANA COASTS FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. A TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT WILL BRING STRONG EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS TO THE AREA FRIDAY AND FRIDAY EVENING. THE DURATION OF EAST WINDS WILL BE AROUND 12 HOURS... AND THIS COULD BRING A RISE IN TIDE LEVELS BETWEEN 1 AND 2 FEET ALONG PORTIONS OF THE UPPER TEXAS COAST. AS THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES INTO THE LOUISIANA COASTAL WATERS FRIDAY NIGHT... STRONG NORTH WINDS WILL ALLOW WATER FROM GALVESTON BAY TO ACCUMULATE ON THE WEST SIDE OF GALVESTON ISLAND RESULTING IN POSSIBLE MINOR FLOODING ALONG THE WEST END OF THE ISLAND.
HIGH TIDES WILL GENERALLY OCCUR FRIDAY EVENING AND WINDS WILL HAVE ALREADY BECOME NORTHEAST. AS A RESULT OF THIS WIND DIRECTION... THE FLOOD THREAT IS EXPECTED TO BE LESS SEVERE THAN THE COASTAL FLOOD EVENT WHICH OCCURRED EARLIER THIS MONTH. HOWEVER... TIDE LEVELS MAY STILL APPROACH OR EXCEED 3.5 FEET ON FRIDAY. TIDE LEVELS OF THIS MAGNITUDE COULD BRING WATER ACROSS PORTIONS OF HIGHWAY 87 ON THE BOLIVAR PENINSULA AND ALONG OTHER VULNERABLE BEACH ERODED LOCATIONS ALONG THE UPPER TEXAS COAST.
THERE STILL REMAINS A GREAT DEAL OF UNCERTAINTY ON THE TRACK AND INTENSITY OF THIS DEVELOPING STORM SYSTEM. IF WINDS ARE GREATER OR THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES SLOWER THAN EXPECTED... HIGHER TIDE LEVELS MIGHT OCCUR. A COASTAL FLOOD WATCH OR WARNING MAY BE NEEDED ON FRIDAY OR FRIDAY NIGHT.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

Should be all clear on Saturday around 10am when I plan to be down there.

Looks like it's going to be pouring for the club meeting though. Y'all be carful driving to Hooters.

Its supposed to be nice Sunday 5-10 mph winds blue sky (I'm assuming)

Saturday winds should relax... At midnight tonight winds start to calm down. Hopefully they aren't crazy in the AM luckily I'll be launching from Harbor Walk and be well protected going down ICW.
