  • Coin jar - How much have you collected?

I know this has nothing to do with fishing, but I have to throw this out there.

Many of you or most of you have either dropped your daily coins in a jar of if you are like me a water bottle I took from work

My question is, how much did you have when you went to cash it in?

Well, I made the decision that I DO NOT want to move the bottle I have and after 5 years of throwing coins in the Ozarka bottle, I ended up with $ 1,803.00!

Not bad, can you say sizzler

I use a 1 gallon pre-popped flavored popcorn container and 3/4 full usually nets me about $200 at a coinstar machine.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

It doesn't take long to add up. Especially the way that cashiers now days don't give you a chance to dig in your pocket for the exact change. I think they do this because they don't want to mess up trying to make change, they just let the machine tell them how much to give you back.

Talk about a payday! I think you've earned a splurge on anything you want. Heck if you shop like I do, you could buy 3 boats with that.

I have an old Mason jar that gets me about $75 a pop. It has stayed mostly empty since Ike. I budget myself $100 out of each paycheck to live on. For the last 2 days, I've been living out of the Mason jar. Is tomorrow the 12th? Cool! I'll have $100 in my pocket tomorrow afternoon. The jar was getting LOW.

Is that mixed change in the mason jar for 75? My dad use to put dimes only in a mason jar. Not sure what he would get, but I know it took a heck of a long time to fill up.

Yep, mixed change. Lookin' at it now it's mostly pennies and nickles.

I want to know if you went to Coinstar or rolled all those coins yourself... I would have bought a machine if I had a whole 5GA water bottle full. WOW never heard of that Mike, congrats... maybe you should sign up for Bank of America's "Keep the change" it rolls over each transaction to the nearest dollar and deposits into your savings account...It adds up quick!

Coinstar at Kroger's will run you 7% of your total take.

Every bank has a change machine. No charge if you have an account. Coinstar is thievery.

Agreed, Bank of America will change it for you for free if you have an account

I would get around $80 when I cashed in my 'ol coffee can. Depends on how many quarters I fished out for beltway money.

yup.. I dont like coinstar although it was my mistake.. Be sure to press the start button because it will gladly eat all your money until you realise your mistake and you end up with 2$
Yeah, and all the muchachas they call me big pappa, when I throw pesos their way!

Actually, I did not do coinstar. I sat on the floor for 5 hours seperating the coins into piles and then weighed them. For example, 80 quarters was a pound, so you go from there. I bank at Wells Fargo and they will count it for free, but it is sent off and then deposited in my account. They gave me large coin bags, it is going to be funny with me walking in there today with two full bags of coins.

BTW, I had $ 63.00 just in pennies, that is a lot of copper!

Every time mine starts to get close to being full , it ends up empty......17 year old daughter at the house will make that happen. I'll be able to tell you when she goes to college next September.....
