  • Whats up West Side-ers!

Its me again the fishing newbie... gonna attempt to take the boat out into west bay sat. any recommended spots? will be dropping out from pirates cove and i am armed with a hotspot fishing map! but still have no idea where to go... south shore line? confederates reef? should i contend with the ICW straight north of me? any tips are appreciated. BTW hows the SSE wind affecting the West Side? greened up yet? thanks.

What type of boat? Shallow running? I'd get behind the geo tubes in between pirates and jamaica, you need to find some protected area with the wind they are forecasting. The ICW, I'd park my boat between the cut into west bay from ICW west of Greens Cut. You can also try Meacoms area just South of Harbor Walk from the ICW or work the area in the bay you'll be East of Greens Cut... You can always run and try SLP too...

I think SLP will be the ticket with this wind. The north side of Bird Island will be protected from this wind and there's plenty of deep guts that are holding fish right now. I boated 6 early yesterday morning in chocolate milk water on the west side of Bird so with any cleaner water at all this place will be the ticket.

That being said I'd launch at the old koa camp on the Freeport side of SLP rather than Pirates... Remember there is still no gas on the water on the South shoreline... Harborwalk is the only place for Gas that I currently know of other than the Yacht Basin.

If you do launch at the KOA you need to follow this route exactly going out or you'll be pushing off sandbars.

Geotubes are big sand filled black tubes that are used as breakwater that line the south shoreline. They can be deceiving, they are constructed like a pyramid so only the tops you can see, there will be two more below the one on top in some areas. Be careful around these as after Ike they may have shifted (most have not) fish behind and in front of them look for clean water.

I am with 007, or find any south shoreline and/or cove and look for bait or slicks. The water actually looks not to bad from our house, but I have not gone in today. Might take an evening wade around the house to see if any fish are hungry.

Let us know how you do and just have fun!
