Santa Fe some grades had it some levels didnt anything new got it,My father built our home in Alta Loma with an attic fan and provisions for a/c later on,first a/c window unit in parents bedroom central wasnt installed untill about 86, I was on my own by 79 and bought a window unit large enough for a whole house and thus became the King of my domain........cant imagine life without it! Think about a settler in a covered wagon pulling up , looking at his wife Thinking weve hit the big time Here in this ungodly hot place called Galveston, as he killed mosquitos on his face!...no thanks!!!

You hit that nail on the head. I believe Yellow fever was horrible here too from what i've read. Let alone the biting flys and the 'sketters. Geez. And no A/C. Glad I live in these times.

Well I'm still hardcore when I'm at the lodge alone I don't use it. I don't use the truck AC either. When the gf and kids are around I'll turn it on, but other wise I refuse to get acclamated to it.

We were living in Richwood and in the late 60's we got a/c for the living room only. My mom would kicked our butt outside to keep us from soaking too much of it up.

Woahhhhh no A/C? When was this, the dinosaur age?

I spent a few months in Europe with no A/C and that was all right. I rather be outside anyways.

Grew up with a/c. We lived in a trailor for about 6 months while we were having a home built in 1990. On friday before 4th of july a/c went out and could not get it fixed until the following monday. It was 116 degrees in the trailor an all my wifes candles and the shower curtain melted. Was working with a guy that grew up without it and had only gotten it when his daughter got diabetis. I would go to work at night after being in that heat all day. I didnt even mention it. I knew i would get no sympathy. He was one of the toughest guys i ever knew. Went to his house to eat fried catfish on evening before he got a/c. We were eating at a table in the kitchen where his wife was frying fish and we stripped off our shirts and ate fresh fried fish dripping with sweat. The day they installed his a/c his wife was sitting on the front purch plucking a chicken to fry. When the a/c crew pulled up she started singing amazing grace. I tend to do the same thing every time i walk past the thermostat.
Was blind but now... "I SEA!"

No a/c growing up in the schools, only a big metal fan &open windows in classrooms, LMHS 1962. Had a/c at nite around 1960, window unit in my parents bedroom at night only. They got central/c mid 60's.

"What do you mean where's the remote?" " Get up and change the channel." hahaha, no really, I remember having that conversation sometime way back. And the other, how many remotes one had to have because none of them would communicate with each other.

Man, that's really cool Rocky. Youtube can be a very cool thing.

SHEWT! They had remote controls in 1961? I was the remote control for my family until we got our first remote when I was 11 in 1984. Who remembers having to adjust the rabbit ears for every channel? Or the dad gum vertical hold?

My first experience with an attic fan was in college, great for clearing out the house full of cigar smoke after a long poker game. Note: Remember to close the fireplace so the ash doesn't go everywhere.

I grew up with central A/C.

I grew up living on the Bay in Baytown and we did not have A.C. Just an attic fan. As a little kid I would thumb tack the bottom of both sides of my curtain to the window frame so the wind would focus downward on my bed. The kids now days have no idea how good thay have it!!!!
