I like the I-Pilot on my MinnKota. MotorGuide has their own version too I think.... The two brands are very similar to picking a Ford vs. Chevy.

I've got a motorguide and havent had any issues with it -- think you're pretty good either way though.

Look for the possibility of both brands going on sale at the upcoming fishing show. They did at the boat show and had I waited a month I could have saved almost 200.00 with F.T.U. Paul advised me to buy Great White. Its working well,so far.Cant imagine not having it .

I have a Motorguide that is 14 years old now, had trouble at first with the old circuit board. I upgraded to digital over 9 years ago & no problems since. They both make good ones today & I think some of the electrical problems has to do with poor quality batteries & loose or corroded connections.
          Today is a new day!!

I haven't figured out the difference between Great White and Varimax.

Weve got minnkotas on the tin can and the bay boat. They are good motors! No problems. When we were looking at which one to buy the motors looked very similar though.

Vari max is what I use .I think actual Great White is like Pro level & only covers the higher thrust mods !

Recently had an issue with a Motorguide. Drive unit filled with water. Warranty was great through Fishing Tackle Unlimited. Total replacement.

Minnkota Riptide co-pilot beats anything with a handle.

Great advice. You beat me to it.

I have owned 4 Minn Kotas (rip tides ) and have never had a problem with anyone of them. They are a quality product.

Well there you have it ,by now you should be reasonably confused, whatever you decide on,Minkota or Motor Guide, you probably won't go wrong either way!
