I ran across this today and it looks like it would be a good idea. The Navionics App is only $10 and a power cord can be rigged up pretty easily.

Anyone tried an Ipad on a boat?

I would worry more about how hot it would get inside of that case. Just wondered if anyone had tried it and the screen size is right up my alley. GPS manufacturers have lost touch with reality when it comes to the larger screens. $1500+ is crazy!
What unit did you settle on Ken?

Thanks Reeltime,
I found this one online but it may be a rust pit.

In concept it's a great idea but I'm telling you, it would be destroyed on most bay boats. If the pounding didn't do it, the saltwater and sun would!Originally posted by evansmarine View PostYep and broke it from hard hitting waves off shore.
Built-in in a big offshore with a cutty cabin would be a slightly different story......
You'd also have to take it on & off which I've never done with my Garmin!"GET OFF MY REEF!"

I haven't. I'll probably get the Garmin 541S for around $650. I really think the Lorance 5G is a better value, but I already have everything set up for Garmin. Chip reader, map chips, etc.Originally posted by Randy View PostI would worry more about how hot it would get inside of that case.
