  • Underwater Lights...

Just called the company Aquatic Lights (seethefish(dot)com)

$595/ light thinking about having 3 installed anyone have any other companies in the area? What about warranty, maintenance etc.

    Is that a reasonable price.

    Coe:

I pay $229 for the mercury vapor lights from the retired electrician in LaMarque-they plug in to your outlet and have 50' or 75' cords. They are not hardwired. They work the same as the hardwired ones that cost double (IMO). The retired guy warrants them for 6 months I believe. Mine have gone out in the past due to Ike (lost 2) and because some jerk hooked my cord and water intruded and shorted it out (same thing can happen to hardwired lights). He has ads in the Islander, now Galveston Monthly. Ya gotta add your own weight to sink the bulb-no biggie-I used a brick, so light is 2' above brick. About 1 pound of weight is needed to sink bulb. Keeep it 2' from bottom for best results-again-that is my opinion.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BTW, maintenance-once a year, pull it outta the water, clean off the barnacles and algae, then reset back in the water. Heck, ya can't even see the light socket anymore due to barnacle encrustment, but the glass sure shines up good. get the 175 watt light.

never throw the light to set it, use your boat and gently drop it over board.

3 year warranty on these & they run the wire through electrical conduit.

I build them to order. $175 for 50' cord, 175w lamp, photo cell, mount the box, plug it in and drop the light in the water. 6 month warranty (I've built over 50 for Bayou Vista residents, retired electronics engineer). Custom lengths available.

              Lights

People that sell these need to advertise to plug them into a GFIC plug not just plug them in. Most boathouse recepticles are GFIC"s but there are many that are not. Its even better if they are on GFIC breaker.

I have a place in Pirate's Cove and have been looking at underwater fishing lights. Do the manufacturers require the lights to be on every night? I had heard that was necessary to keep barnacles from forming on the bulbs. Second, post up the firm you use to install. thanks

The group I originally posted does everything for you for that price they hard wire it into a GFIC outlet. You must provide the outlet etc.

Yes they come on each night to keep the barnacles somewhat under control.

Coe, I am with Jerry on this one. I purchased the same one from the guy in LaMarque and it has been running solid for 2 years. It has a photocell on top and comes on at night and off in the morning. For the price, you can purchase even more!

I hate the idea of having them to saty on at night to keep alge and barnicles from forming..... becuase some jack hole will always roll p and snag them and tear them up..... during the off season, pull them and save your self some money

Mine that's been in since Ike (pulled out three times to clean it) had two or three barnacles on the glass-between the heat of the element and slipperyness of the glass, barnacles have a hard time growing on the bulb itself-they grow like crazy on the socket though. Algae grows pretty good on the top of the bulb but comes right off with a rag.

                            I think I'll get another light-already pm'd Lori above.

Is the conduit important in terms of preventing fishermen from pulling up the cords? Does it matter?
