  • Fishing sportsmans road?

I'm going somewhere between the kemah flats and san luis pass Friday. Whats everybody think about fishing sportsmans road friday. I've fished by the country club but not with a north wind blowin in my face. Will I be restricted to the coves and will the temps be too low for fish at all? Guess I'll just have to see. Any other spots out there?

If you wait until Sunday, you can pretty much catch fish anywhere that you want to. Friday doesn't look good all the way around.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

Are you limited to walking in only?

All I can do at this point is walk in.

If you walk in around Sportsman you might have some luck I'd grab a pint of shrimp on the way in just to be safe... You can try San Luis Pass or walk in around Sea Isle and work the coves...

You might even try the surf if it clears up with the north wind. Kemah flats around the pier pilings would be a good choice also. The wind shouldn't affect it much out there.
I hear they have been catching some flounder around pelican Island also, and you can get out of the wind on the channel side and fish the dropoff.
The weather rarely dictates whether I go or not. I fish when I can, not when I always should.

What's the surf temp at? I start seeing productivity when the water temp hits high 60's almost 70 degrees...

The weather forecast doesnt look all that great for the 'average' angler to go out into, however that being said, you might try and find a protected shoreline and really slay them. Wind is supposed to swing to the north/northwest, and get brisk. Clothing choices will be important.

The glass minnows are really out there in the grass along the shoreline tho. Something to think about if you are trout fishing.

We tried today, caught a few, too much time between fish.

Wish you nothing but good luck.

I would try and find some protected shoreline.

I fished the TAMUG campus area earlier this week and caught a few. You could even try to drum fish. Anywhere on the S. shore of Pelican Island would be good, but I don't know how you would access it.

Mabey try the surf off the S. Jetty. I've heard it's open to get to E. Beach again. Sheephead get thick out there around this time of year and you might get some with live/dead shrimp on a cork next to the rocks. At the very least it'll be comfortable because the wind will have pushed the surf down.

Good luck, I've never done well right after a front and try to fish other times. But not every one is lucky enough to live on the island and cherry-pick their fishing days

Hmm, what about Offat's Bayou? I'll bet you could find some lot or something on the N. shore and walk in there. Park at your own risk. I've heard the trout stack up in there after a norther too.

Shan I will be wading somewhere between Mccullum park in Trinity and mosquito island on Sunday. Most likely mosquito island. You are more than welcome to tag along.

Thanks for the invite fp10 but it looks like the only day I have this week is friday. I appreciate everybody's posts. I'll probably head down 146 and hit kemah first then head down towards west bay. I'll probably even check out the surf like some of you said. I sure as hell ain't gonna let a 70% chance of rain this stop me from fishin!

Sportsman may be the ticket for walk in if the tides are holding. Try walking west to the point, then fish the back side toward the leeward drains. If your dragging a bait bucket free-line shrimp in the mouth of the drains.

So far I've been wrong with the direction on the wind... it has been almost direct north-northEAST.

The temps have dropped fast, but we have seen a lot of birds working close to the shore line. Dang, really close. If it wasnt for the wind and cold, well its making me consider being out there. That 20 mph wind tho has really cooled my heals.
