Haha - sorry. I am new here and sometimes one can be attacked for posting something like this! I have seen similar threads end in disaster on other boards and temporarily went into duck and cover mode.

This is awesome feedback. I really do appreciate it! I just see all of the trout being strung in reports and was wondering what the general consensus was of the folks that are in the "know." Most of my group is from other places in the world and not familiar at all with anything to do with fishing/eating fish. I was hoping to be able to provide a good ole Texas trout fish fry, but I may be serving up reds on the halfshell instead. Or, what is more likely, hotdogs from Seven Seas because I won't catch a darn thing!

Come on out our way. That north shoreline where I caught those trout in Bastrop will be protected. It's about an 8 minute ride from the camp.

Seven Seas has their own meat market and their steaks and hamburger meat are darn good compared to Krogers and Randalls-expensive though, but good. The folks here are very nice and do not attack like some other boards. Ya may see 007 and Boom go after each other a lot-but they do it in good fun and know each other well. Welcome aboard.

BTW, my GF loves all that artificial crapola snacks like Funyons and the crummy beef jerky with all the preservatives in it. I ask her how can she eat that junk-she says the preservatives help keep her looking young and beautiful-I think it works (at least for her!!!). It aint working on me though-yes DDossey-I lost my hair-now I can blame that on the dang trout-thanks, never thought about that as a reason!!

I don't eat much fish, but give most to my FIL because he loves it. He definitely eats more than 8oz/mo of the trout that I catch for him. If I was of mind to eat fish, I wouldn't let them toxins bother me. I am sure I digest lots of other things that are worse. There are studies that will tell you that anything is bad for you, so who knows.

Muddskipper told me he doesnt pay any attention to a bunch of pointed head nerds that say only eat 8 ounces a month of trout (like eating only one potato chip.)

He said he also conducted his own study; and, advised that eating MORE than 8 ounces of trout a month seemed to have the same effect on him as taking a viagra per day. Therefore, he has been able to justify and offset the perceived health threat with the $$$$ savings on the viagra.

I haven't read the actual report but I'm gonna call boolsheet on "west bay" trout being contaminated.
1.) West bay is a LOT cleaner water than east bay.
2.) Trout of normal size aren't very old. They can't get that full of toxin unless they are swimming in Love Canal. West bay ain't exactly Love Canal.
3.) Bottom feeders(like flounder, catfish, reds, and JT) are down in the muck all the time. These I could believe are contaminated.
Ever noticed the ulcers on flounder bellies?
Trout on the otherhand tend to stay in cleaner waters.

From what I've read it has more to do with their diet and their digestive process.

If the "west bay" trout are contaminated,... if,.... that means the oysters I eat from Christmas Bay could also be contaminated. Their ant nuthing rong with me,... yet !

I won't get into all the toxicology nerd stuff...

I still eat bay trout, but not as much. I won't feed any bay trout to younger women and girls. I keep only small trout near the limit, and let any bigger ones go (I did keep the last 20"er I got, but I was really craving a trout )

I plan to stock up this summer on surf runners.
