  • Post Hurricane Ike

Guys i'm thinkin of makin my first coastal run of the year on Friday, and i was just curious about the conditions on the west side of Galveston and the Surfside area.

    What are the roads like?

Can you still access the bays through the same roads as you always could?

    What is SLP bridge like?

Can you still launch a boat at Ernies or West Bay Marina in Sea Isle?

Thanks for any info y'all can give me.

The road down Galveston to SLP is fine, as is the bridge. The Bluewater Highway was breeched in several places and to get to Surfside from SLP you have to drive on the beach for about 1.8 miles. It's not a bad ride, but you've got to be careful in a coupla places. The KOA ramp at SLP is ok and I have heard Ernie's ramp is ok.

It's still there, but it's un-manned. I don't think they'll resume tolls until the Bluewater HWY is rebuilt.

I noticed that the lights are now flashing on the toll booth... Bailey made a statement that he paid the other day I laughed and was like No you didn't... I haven't seen anyone there since Ike...

Hmmmm, perhaps an enterprising fellow might just stand there for a while and collect a bit of change.

we fished sunday, couldnt find a ramp to put in. Started at the diversionary (spl??) canal, then bayou vista, then fatboys, then the SLP, then back to 2004. The water was WAY low (prob 3-4') as you can see in some of the pics from Blockade Runners. Barely got in at choc bayou.

I am pretty sure Sea Isle Ramp is okay to launch from. Last time I crossed the SLP pass bridge, it said to cross at your own risk. It was late at night, so I turned around and took 45 home.

There's not enough volume to make it worth my while yet.
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.
