I don't think a minimum wage job is intended to be a career family supporting job . It's meant for teenagers , college kids and extra income . If you have no skill or training your labor isn't worth much . Anyone can flip burgers . The communist philosophy says everyone should get paid pretty much the same because their labor is equally valuable . Not everyone has the intellect and motor skills to be a brain surgeon , or drive to excell in school and spend 10 Or so years in higher education and being poor in the process . Supply and demand . They can demand more for their services because not everyone is not suited for medicine .

and if I wasn't for the illegals, people without college could make $15 dollars an hour cutting lawns! fkn deport them all. how easy can that be? they are making cash and sending half of it back to they're country with no taxes. unemployment comp. is average of 300.00 per week. Based on 40 hours, that's 8 bucks an hour. Just about minimum wage. I would like to think that most of the unemployed would rather have a job, but that's probably delusional. Whatever happened to wishing the best for folks, especially the least among us. BTW, Bruce food stamps are on the way out too. I often wonder how folks make out on minimum wage. Pay rent, utilities, child care while they're at work, car insurance and gas (if they has a car). Something has to happen otherwise when folks get hungry enough the crime rates going to triple. But i guess that's why we all have guns, and so will they.

The inland Inuit's (eskimos) survived for thousands of years on hunting Caribou, then early French trappers showed up and convinced them to hunt and trap for hides. Each spring for a decade or more, the French showed up for the hides which they traded for more ammunition, traps and food. One year the French didn't show up and the entire population starved.

Millions with no government check will riot in the streets. The US government owns millions of acres of land in the US. Maybe it's time to once again offer 40 acres and a mule.

A million and a half people are losing emergency unemployment benefits the first. These are people who have exhausted their 26 week state benefits and used up to 44 weeks, I believe, of emergency federal unemployment. I don't think this is the group that had 99 weeks of unemployment. The president wants to extend that aid.

What do you think should happen, and why?

Absolutely I agree with an extension until Congress quits saying NO and passes a jobs bill. Here in our area we are blessed with the energy corridor and have pulled through the recession quite well. Good livable waged jobs will help everyone with full 40 hr a week pay and bring in needed tax revenue. Lots of blame to go around but lots of solutions as well.
