  • church retreat, shark

    hey y'all

Spent 3 days in Jamaica beach with 11 fellers for a church retreat. 3 of us fish.

waded early each morning at north shoreline spots, one cove, fished lights and took other guys to greens to drift etc... and had a generally awesome time.

Caught a lot of small trout and reds and a some keepers each day. some on top, some on devil eyes, some on gulp pogies and other plastics. Only 2 flounder.

Had great conditions mostly. Sunday the wind was up and water more off color.

The real story is that we found a huge shark barely alive at Green's cut. Not thrashing but able to do the "open close, open close" of the mouth. Buddy thinks it is a Mako. We drug it across to the mainland side and tucked him behind that big log along the intercoastal to come back later and get those teeth. That is probably the only big shark in West Bay, so glad it is dead now. Resume fishing!!! : )

Holy crap, that does look like a mako. They are good eating, but I probably wouldn't eat a sick one.

Sheez Louise. WTF is a Mako doing in West Bay? I thought they were deepwater sharks.

I guarantee you it came in with the extreme high tide and was displaced from IDA moving through last week.

That would be the FIRST mako I have ever heard of in the flippin' BAY! Next I guess we need to look for a greater hammerhead...

Next Al Gore will be on TV (with Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Sheila Lee Jackson) and "blame" a mako in Galveston's West Bay on Global Warming!! Or perhaps the mako met recently BHO and it just gave up living due to ridiculous taxation and the poor economy.

I saw a large shark at shell island the same day as the redfish tournament. The water was pretty clear because I had no problem seeing this shark cruising the bottom. I was operating my trolling motor at the time. The water was probably around 3.5' to 4'. It made my glad I was in the boat. I figured it to be about 7' to 8' long.

Let's not tell Donna about that bad boy after her encounter with the bull shark last month

Scott, I saw that you called, so I was not around the phone. Glad you got to go out with some friends.
