Not to many years after breathable waders were invented, I decided that I needed a pair since my old neoprenes had a pound of patch goop on the crotch and on other seams.
Now you need to understand what an amazing improvement neoprene waders were over the old Red Ball boot-foot rubberized canvas waders that were the gold standard up to that time.
Now back to my first breathables. I had a student at the time in an Art History class that was a fisherman, so we used to talk fishing from time to time. One day during one of those conversations he mentioned that he worked at CutRate fishing tackle.
Seeing an opportunity I asked if by chance he got and employee discount, knowing Danny & Joe for years I figured that this was highly unlikely. I was surprised when he said that he did and asked what I needed.
I thought for a second and said some Simms guide waders, which I paid $120.00 for. I wore those waders for at least seven years before they started weeping and were always wet inside at the end of a day fishing and so was I.
I looked on the Simms website and found the repair form, filed it out and sent them to Montana. About a week later a nice lady from Simms called me and asked if I fished much. "No....not much I guess, about average" I said. She apologized right off and I figured this wasn't going to be good news or work out for me. She said; "Mr. Luce our technicians have evaluated your waders and determined that, well, that they're worn out!"
At this point I had that sinking feeling that my premonition of bad news was coming true, and at that very moment the nice lady said; "Mr. Luce how about if we help you upgrade to a new, better pair like our new G3's for $150.?"
So I did and when I ripped one of the shoulder straps off in and unfortunate accident several years later, I sent them in to Simms repairs and they fixed the the strap and any pinholes and shipped them back for free.
You see I believe you get what you pay for (even if you pay at a discount) and that kind of customer service is, well...invaluable to me.
