  • Putting together FWE Texas Slam Tournament...

Okay after much consideration I've decided to dull down the Black Drum Tournament. In doing so I am concentrating my efforts into a tournament devoted to the species we truly find in West Bay. Flounder , Trout & Red Fish.

The Tournament will be run 1 day only during June.

I would like to do a stringer as well as the Slam, meaning...

Heaviest 5 Fish Stringer (No more than 2 slot reds and 1 trout over 25")
    Heaviest Slot Red
    Heaviest Trout
    Heaviest Flounder

The Tournament Entry Fee will be set at $40 / person

Teams are permitted. two (2) anglers / team

Boat, Wade, Yak or Walk- in on Beach all are welcome. You just have to take the fish with Rod & Reel only.

The Entry Fee will include a 1 year subscription to Texas Outdoors Journal. They have been graceous enough to offer this & also donate 3 year subscriptions to all winners.

Bill McDaniel of BillyStiX Custom Rods will be building two custom spiral rods. Bait Caster Models (Non- Spinning). These will be given to the Heaviest Stringer and Heaviest Slot Red. I am going to coordinate with Billy & based upon interest and commitments I might have him build two more and I will buy and donate them as prizes for the Tournament so that other two categories will win rods as well.

Capt. Greg Francis (Aqua Pimp) has donated a Bay Fishing Trip as well which will be given to the Heaviest Stringer winner

My hope is to make this Tournament an annual event. I want it well known and eagerly anticipated each year. I need YOUR help in making this happen. Donations, input on the direction we should go, how the tournament should be structured etc.

Already we have so much support from our site sponsors. Some of our Founding Members run a great BBQ Catering business on the side and they can do BBQ for $5 a plate.

West Bay would be our venue location... Meaning awards ceremony, weigh-in will all be located on Galveston's West End. Accessible both by car and boat it will be easy to find. Waterman Restraunt is my target venue off Stewart Road near 12 Mile Rd.

Participants may fish all areas West of the Texas City Dike, must stay North of Pelican Island. All of West Bay, inlets accessible by ICW, back lakes etc. are permitted. Bastrop, Chistmas, Chocolate Bay/ Bayou are all fair game. Any angler wishing to fish beachside (from the beach or in surf) must do so West of where the Sea Wall ends all the way down to San Luis Pass. No beach front fishing on Follet Island.

Please let me know your thoughts. I really want this to be a great event!

I've decided that a good portion of the proceeds from this event will go directly to the Sea Center in Lake Jackson for the benefit of Flounder and re-introducing them into West Bay.

I fixed it (I think) I wanted to prevent people from going into the ICW I really want them to fish Swan Lake, Cambpbells anything West of TX City Dike... You can not go under the Pelican Island Bridge into the Ship Channel... Stay out of the ICW waterway while fishing etc only when your East of the Causeway RR Brige.

I might consider doing plaques as well. It really depends on the number of entries and response we get. I want this to be big
