  • Halloween fishing in the beavertail!

It was this time when we got to the first area we wanted to explore.

We were in the Beavertail and it was perfect conditions. The weather was beautiful this halloween morning with mostly calm wind. It got a little breezy later but didnt affect us too much. It started out a coolish at dawn but it got warm fast.

    We fished here...

Fishing with these lures...Buggs. Well, not these exact colors though. We mostly used blue crab pattern in 1/8 or 1/4 oz.

    And caught plenty of these...

Thomas was poling and I was on the front casting platform. He said from behind me..."hey, watch this" I turned to see him pitch to this 30" hoss, we watched it eat the Bugg and then proceeded to have a chinese fire drill as it tried to escape from a 4 foot drain around a 6' wide poling skiff sitting in an 8' drain, lol. It was fun (my apologies to any chinese people reading this)

Later, I saw this multispot and even before I had cast to it, I said to Thomas...we have to take pictures of this one! I could see a bunch of spots. Turns out it was 12 on each side, a nice 24 spotter! I dont think I have caught one with that many before.

The reds are everywhere in the marsh! I had probably 40 and Thomas had probably 15 (because he was pushing my butt around in the skiff, lol).

Many of them were top slot or oversized. The tide was supposed to be outgoing but it really wasnt doing much. Periodically the fish would shut down and sit in the mud for short times but they never went very far.

We didnt keep any fish for us, everything was released except for one that we accidentally killed. It went to the neighbor and when he cleaned it, he was shocked at the amount of shrimp in the belly...he couldnt believe that red was still eating. I told him reds are eating machines! When they get full they spit some out and eat more!

Beautiful weather, great fishing conditions...I sure hope that everyone has a chance to get out there when its like this.

I know, I like reading a "report" with integrated pics. Its kind of a pain to do but its worth it, IMO.
