I'm not qualified to answer that but "what I see" from one of the most popular areas in Galveston would represent the gigger as a sliver on a pie chart.

Issue is not the conservation effort, but rather the targeting of the gig. Again, why not just say 2 flounder/person in November?Originally posted by WestEndAngler View PostIf you have ever walked the flats in West Bay you'll know what they did is good for the sport. I have no problem reducing the bag limit and disallowing gigging during November. 6 years ago I had not caught a flounder in over 5 years, now when I go out I can catch them no problem. When you walk out there and see thousand of juvenile flounder... it puts a smile on my face I don't know about the rest of you but the efforts of MudSkipper, Chester Moore & those who volunteer their time at all the events as well as Sea Center are doing more for the FLOUNDER then any of us sitting here debating a subject.
Get out & do something productive, show some passion in the outdoors and not on the internet!

I know this is going no where fast coe.
My main point is why ban the gig. I'm afraid it just opens the door to making gigging a thing of the past
And from my point of view the gig is a small fraction of the harvest.
This is a excellent thread. I admit I am not getting anything done in the physical since but I am getting minds to think about it and that is a positive.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro

If your open to gigging then you have to be open to them disallowing it for a month. Same way if you were harvesting 10 / day your fine with 5/day and the reduction of bag limit to 2/ day via rod & reel only during November is accepted. It's not hard to sit at the pass or sea wolf park and get 2 / day.
Why ban gigging, good question but seems that we are already on that downward path which I hate to see.
Bryan made the statement that there are many commercial giggers out there which drive boats similar to yours Bert. I have no clue of their setups or where they target but if you start grouping yourself in with commercial guys your going to have a problem. It needs to be Recreational vs. Commercial
Because the majority of those that gig walk in and target small areas because they just can not cover the ground that a boat setup canWe are West End Anglers, a saltwater tribe!
