  • HELP! Reel Advice...

Okay, I am now in the market for 2 new bait casters one to replace my Dad's (Curado e7) I happened to lose last Saturday and one for me. Now I wasn't REALLY impressed with the E7 the price is a little high what are some good reels to put some braid on. We are going after redfish this weekend and I need him to have a good reel, me to have a reel. I don't plan on throwing my fly rod all day. Already have enough spin casters.

Any advice on a few reels I should look at.

Price Range $100 - $300 for both reels.

I am not replacing the Curado with another Curado I'm not married to it and to be honest my Dad has never casted it. I doubt he'll miss it lol

I know where you can get one cheap!! You just might have to walk through the mud for a while to find it...Bring some of Chip's cast nets and you might be able to locate it quicker!!

I am with you-the new Curado looks neat, but I'd rather use my old ones. Same goes for the latest version of the Chronarch (silver) and the green one 2 years ago-they just aren't as good as early versions that first came out in silver, then gold IMO.

Have you used/thrown the new Chronarch (silver version) that's out now? It's smoother than the curado but not by much IMO.

I think the Citica is closet to the old style green Curado-feels and throws about the same and costs closer to the old curado model.

Were you surprised I dint say Zebco 808?

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Try Shimano's new Caenan. I bought one about a month ago and love it. Its only $85 bucks. Very low profile reel. So far its holding up great, caught lots of Reds on it and caught 1 7 1/2lb Trout on it last week and it performed great. I was going to post something on this reel but I wanted to give it another month of abuse first.

I have a Diawa Sol baitcaster that one of the guys at FTU talked me into about a year ago.

It's not as smooth as a Core, but is smoother than a Curado (I have both). The real benefit is that is seems impervious to saltwater. It's been dunked several times and all I do is open up the side plate, remove the spool and rinse it out with fresh water when I'm done fishing.

At this point, I'm seeing how much abuse it can take before I have to break it down.

At any rate, since you like to throw your gear overboard you should look at it.

Great suggestion. My wife is ready to put her spinning reel away and start throwing a baitcaster. I am going to mention your recommendation to her.
