Just like Explorer21, my wife suprised me with a guided trip out of Hackberry, Louisiana this weeked. We had a freakin' blast. The Hackberry Cajun Guide Service were our gracious host and Capt. Phillip Pichotta was our guide. My wife fished with Phillip in May and had a great experience and thought this trip would make for an excellent birthday/anniversary gift. She was a 110% right.

We started the morning reef drifting a few spots and right away we were on the trout. Several had been hooked by the time the early morning fog cleared and the gulls started working. We blasted all over the place chasing birds. It paid off several times.

The highlight of our day was my wife choosing to give fishing with a plastic lure a try. I had been throwing one throughout the day and after seeing me land a few on it, she decided to put the cork away. We eased up on some birds working to find a school of reds below them. Her first ever cast of a plastic put a 28" red in the cooler. Way to go Candace!!!

We had a great time fishing with the Hackberry Cajun Guide Service and HIGHLY recommend Capt. Phil to anyone interested in taking a guided trip to Lake Calcasieu (send me a private message and I will gladly tell you more of their hospitality). I was suprised to see he sports a Marsh Rat Rods decal on his boat. Alvin is my home town and where I chose to have my rods made.

"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Nice report!! Big lake is awesome!! I can tell you Marsh Rat is a good ol boy. He has passed on to me several decades of fishing experience in the chocolate bay system just because he likes to teach people that like to fish! I cant wait to get back to Sportsman Paradise!!

I fished over there yesterday and it was a little slow. We caught 25 trout and 2 flounder on Commissary point. After that we tried the weirs but the tide had just started going out and I didn't have enough time to wait for it to turn on. It should be real good in a few weeks when the shrimp come out of the marsh. I talked to a local who had cast net 30 pounds in the marsh yesterday , he said they were real thick in there.
