Not sure if its an actual written law but it is The Rule of the Sea.
If you see someone in distress you should assist them.
The fine line here is "distress".
Obviously someone injured or sinking qualifies.
Where it gets iffy is, for instance, watching some dumbarse idiots ram their boat up on a sand bar at flank speed.
They sure aren't going to sink in 3inches of water.
Do you go assist immediately or wait until you're finished doing what you're doing before you go to their aid?

I was in 1.5" when I beached the Gator-Tail, tackled my date, sliced me ear open in the process & effectively ruined any chances... Monte, I too was digging in cooler! The 24 empties & 20 jello shots were getting in the way of a fresh "Dr. Pepper"

traditions dont mean its a law; but ill always stop and help out someone waving at me..

just last week these people were waving at me off of a bote; and i felt it morally right (civic duty, traditons etc..) to go help them and forget about my fishing trip for that day.
