  • What's the world coming to?

At 10:30am we were on our way East and noticed at boat along the intracoastal spoil island near Carancahua cut, with a bimini up. It was hard to see the occupants in the shade but when we passed by, I saw somebody waving and noticed the cowling off the motor.

We pulled in to discover that 2 men and a lady were broke down. They asked if we were going fishing. I told them we were going to Greens. The Capt. asked if I could tow them that far, or to Harbourwalk. And I told them we would tow them to Harbourwalk.

He then said, "you may have seen our fire this morning, we've been out here all night". I almost dropped my teeth! It was 10 friggin 30 and they were on the intracoastal. Its Saturday, and I figure there must have been dozens of boats pass them by. I asked them if anybody else stopped, and they said they waved at boats but nobody stopped.

I did see their fire when I went by about 6am but had no idea it was a stranded party. If I had known, I would have towed them and delayed my fishing.

Most folks on this board have and would do the same, but I can't figure out the rest of the a holes that would pass these folks up.

Good on you Scott, man it seems like some folks just don't care or in to Big a hurry to what can be done another day.. Someone could have been hurt and in need of Medical attention quickly, you did a Good thing and a "Big Kudos" to you.

Another reason to have a ship to shore radio / Cell / Flares.. and a Good Smaritain to help out! Yep, I'd been waving my middle finger too if someone just pass by while waving for help.. _astards!

            Thanks,

I passed by those guys at about 9 o clock and they did not give any sign of being standed. If that was the case they need to be tought how to show that they are in distress. They never even tried. I would have help them in a heart beat if I had known they needed it. ( It will be me one of thease days no doubt it) hope they where ok.

Glad you were able to help. A fire on a boat is no laughing matter. Glad it wasn't more serious and they were able to get it under control. Sounds like an electrical fire? Glad the fuel lines didn't rupture.

They had a campfire on the shore, not in the boat. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Clint, I wonder if they were asleep when you went by? 2 of them were asleep when I pulled up.

Anyhow, I didn't ask them about signalling devices etc... but I did suggest a towing membership.
