  • Blockade Runners Painting - Continuing a tradition

So a while back I met an older couple at the ramp. The guy was taking some pics and we were talking. He told me he was taking pics to get ideas for a CCA painting he was going to do. His name was Dan Henley and I invited him to ride with me to the camp so he could take some pics along the way. He came along and we got to talking. I don't know if I've ever shown y'all, but 3 of my most prized possessions are paintings from Bayou Cook. I'll put all 3 on here. The first is my great grandfather's oyster boat, shrimp boat, and runabout, painted by my aunt Catherine circa 1950. The second, also by Cathering, circa 1952, is of my great grandfather's camp on Bayou Cook in La. The third, painted in 1993 by my grandmother, Bada, is my old camp on bayou cook. I thought it would be pretty awesome to have a painting of the new camp, but I reckoned it would be pretty expensive.

Well Dan shot me a price that was out of this world. So I gave him the go-ahead. He just sent me the almost finished painting and it really blows me away. What do y'all think? Dan does commission work all the time if anyone is interested in getting him to do a painting, let me know and I'll put you in contact with him. - Sandy

The second one by Catherine is great, I really like it. The new one is good as well especially the sky and water.

Sandy, your sense of family and tradition is admirable. So often in today's crazy world we loose sight of the things that are really important.
