  • What's up with the extereme low tides???

What is going on with the tides this week? I came back from Florida on Saturday and the water was way low in our canal and it has been low since then. It came up a little yesteday, but then I went to the surf and it was way out again. I took this picture to show you want I am talking about, the water is usually at the poles.

High pressure and light westerly winds result in low tides in G-town.

Believe it or not, high pressure actually pushes down on the water displacing it to lower pressure areas. Low pressure pulls the water up. I know it sounds strange, but I saw it on a documentary about the hydraulics associated with storm surge.

I'm sure there are other factors as well, but since seeing that show, it seems to hold true for what happens with our tides in Galveston.

My moto in the Beavertail is if I see water, I go. If I see land I turn.

Yours is if you see land, go anyway. LOL!

I dunno but I had a hard time docking on the inside of BR last weekend. Had to pic the motor up and push it in with the paddle.

I make all my own videos w/ a simple free "Windows Movie Maker"... Nobody has helped me...

                They are all online: www.youtube.com/fishwestend

I want to get a better camera and better editing software I really like creating and publishing the movies. For a 3 minute video I need about 10 minutes of good footage.

Do you ever get stuck in one of those? If so, who pulls you out?

GGF has it right on the tides.

My video camera is one of those huge old VHS ones. Don't think that'll work. If anyone wants it though, you can have it. Works great.

It mainly is due to the new moon in a few days the 9th. I think, but combine that with the West wind and high pressure and the lunar tides are exaggerated.
