  • Bull Shark

Should be in wading section but more traffic on this board.
Got back in town yesterday and talked to a buddy who had an encounter with a 6ft bull shark while wading at 8 Mile on the 3rd. He was out with his brother in mid waist water and felt a bump and then painted the inside of his wading pants brown....

    Be careful.

Did it get his fish? How'd he know it was a 6' bull shark, did he see it too?
I haven't seen as many in the coves as usual this summer. They're plenty around and virtually no attacks on fishermen, so I don't really worry about it.

I've got a 5ft bull that visits us in the canal occasionally usually just after dark. I think about stingrays more than sharks when wading.

        You think that's something?

I've seen 10ft+ swimming in several of the south shore coves, in the SLP flats behind the pass, all of the back backs to the west of West Bay, and on all of the mid bay reefs out there. Better stay away from those spots so you don't become shark bait!

Is that the one that had the remnants of a wade fishermans pants leg stuck in his teeth when he grinned?

SLP flats sharks, I don't worry about.
But I once seen a stingray barb sticking out of the water so big it looked like a power pole.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) he didn't have anything on his stringer. He got a good, long look at it, identified the tell-tale bull shark dorsal fin and coloration. Not sayin its the biggest shark ever seen in G-bay, but figured I would be doing a disservice to not report on the forums

He didn't by chance have a Jimmy Houston Super Spook hanging from his mouth did he? That would be mine if so

                    Why all the fuss?

Those sharks are around us all the time.
We just can't see them in the murky water.

Is it legal to carry a pistol while wading? Or does Texas not have a "king of your wading zone" law?
