  • whew, finally a sprinkler system

I, we've, been wishing and wanting a sprinkler system for, what.... 5 years now. Today its actually happening. Have had a bunch of bids over the past few years (we wanted to use local american help), so we finally settled on this private co. to actually make it happen. I am so beyond happy, and these guys are SO hard working, know what they are doing, etc. I cant believe it, we are going to have a sprinkler system. And its being done right.

I know you're excited, but here's my take. I used to install them and I never understood why anyone ever bought them unless they had a huge yard. In the evening, take a hose and spray your yard down for 10-15 minutes. It's therapeutic. I pretend I'm a firefighter.

Coach, I have a large yard, and most importantly, I'm not always around to water. Used to be a lot of fun to 'watch the grass grow', but not so much anymore.

I've been trying to kill my yard for 4 years. My neighbors water all the time during the day and fertilize every year. My grass looks better and grows too darn fast. I water maybe once a week at night.

                  Sandy,
The garden guy on the radio said watering in the evening or at night is a sure way to get brown patch or take-all patch. He recommended very early in the morning instead.

I'd be happy for a brown patch Kenny. My neighbors would stop suspecting me of night fertilizing. Drives them nuts that my yard grows like it does. One of them is like Hank Hill. "You gotta get rid of that clover. You gotta get rid of them dandelions." Why? I like clover and dandelions.

Geez some of you guys are tough cookies. And in all reality I should be spending less on water than I have in the past. We tried to get a separate meter just for the sprinkler system, but JB doesnt do that, which really sucked. "If you want a separate meter, you will have to pay the sewer, trash pickup with it" So, I'm thinking about starting a petition.

You might feel a little differently about it if you were the one mowing, edging and watering it. It gets huge real fast in the heat.
