  • Getting to Chocolate Bay

I have a place in Sea Isle. Since the hurricane I have stuck my boat every time I have tried to go to Chocolate Bay, where they have re dredged . Can someone tell me where the opening is? Also, is Greens cut passable to the IC?
    Thanks,
    Dick

Welcome to FWE. I don't know how to get into Chocolate Bay but there are people here that will tell You how. You can get into the I/C @ Greens Cut on the East side of the cut.

Greens Cut is passable. Stay in the middle where the PVC pole is. The best way to get into Chocolate from Sea Isle would be to go in through the Chocolate channel. There some very shallow reefs that line the Chocolate side of the ICW. The channel would be your safest bet until you become familiar with the bay. if you get outside the channel be careful. There are spoil reefs that run d@mn near both sides of the Chocolate Channel up to the 2004 Bridge. These spoils are great to fish!

        Dick,

I recently helped the Hot-spot maps out and updated the F127 map.

It has some good details on there that you can use.

        From Sea Isle head east.

The channel is easy to see as you want to approach the two houses near the ICW ...

These houses sit on the west side of the Chocolate channel ....They also sit on a reef that runs paralle to the west side of the channel .... look at a map ....

On the west side of the bay that is the only big set of reefs unless you get against the shorleline like near Wardens Bayou ...... but that area is good to drift, like along the Geo-tubes ....

I will touch on some of this Satuday at FTU on I-45 south.

Texas Fish and Game is hosting a day of fishing clinics there .... I will go on at 10:30

Hard to explain. I would suggest you wait by Alligator point on a weekend and watch someone make the entry near Alligator Point-whatever you do, NEVER follow close to someone-stay 200-300 yards or more away and behind them. Lotta shallow reefs in Chocolate-expect to run aground and they aint sand or mud-they are hard oyster shell. I would suggest you hire Aqua Pimp and learn the bays and maybe have him show you.

                Thanks

I appreciate the help. I have not been able to fish much since the hurricane, my time down there is mostly spent fixing what got torn up. I will contact the guide as recommended.

Where can one get a hot spots map? All we've been able to find is hook and line(sinker) and they're worthless. Had fun trying to navigate west sunday with the majority of west messed up.

There is a cut marked into the ICW just west of Aligator point with red and green topped poles that will get you in and you can just go straight up into the bay or you can get in the ICW using the Sea Isle cut and run all the way down past Aligator point and turn into the bay

I'd tell ya but then I'd have to hide my fish from ya

Just kidding. Most of the time I enter from west bay down at alligator, almost directly lined up to the channel that would be my entrance into Chocolate. I would not say I'm right though because although I've never touched I have seen my fish finder show .7' then blink at me like "What the heck!!!" Other times I must hit it good cause I never get below 2'. I'm thinking that's just tidal difference though. Whatever you do watch the GPS for marked reefs and the depth gauge for the unmarked ones. It's tricky but worth the fish.
