  • Pirates Cove Channel Markers

I was out there today and put up some new channel markers. I'm beat did it solo and could have used someone in the boat to work the hammer but Bailey & Cody were busy at work... I was setting & resetting the stake out stick to get it in good position to hammer the PVC in the ground. The area has shoaled in another 10 feet the channel narrows as you head out towards West Bay.

Mission accomplished, I'll snap a photo tomorrow I finished at sunset.

Thanks for the great work. They look good! It's appears like the channel has narrowed. BTW, I hardly saw you the whole weekend.....were you holed up? Fishing was off the hook.

Thanks Coe. Even with my GPS I had a bear of a time navigating out to West Bay from Lake Cuomo a few weeks ago.

Coe: way to go-you alone likely saved 15-20 idiots that were out this weekend by marking the channel.

BTW, wish ya coulda made the buddy trip offshore-always a next time.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Channel Markers

Question: How far out do you run north before you can head west from the channel? Past the old duck blind?

It hasn't been to bad lately with the high tides but I bet it gets sticky with lower water later in the summer.

Thanks for the work Coe...I saw you at the ramp on Friday afternoon, you spoke with my friend Dwayne...I should of introduced myself but I was still smarting from having my a** handed to me that day...left the dock at 6:30 that morning 5 croaker, 1 throwback trout, and a slimer on spoons/plastic. Anyway I have better manners most of the time....this is the best fishing sight on the web...and you mark channels too! Keep up the great work. OR19

I thought I knew one of y'all... No problem on not saying hello the ramp is a busy spot for a lot of people and making friends there is usually done after you've loaded up

I'm not familiar with any old duck blind out in front of Pirates, what used to be there was 6 pilings I think only 1 is left standing in the old channel that used to mark the entrance from the bay. There are some concrete structures out there as well which are marked with a piling and another that has PVC poles near it, they are 400 yards from the edge of the Channel Markers as your heading towards the Old ICW The new house at the corner of the bay has caused some serious erosion when they extended the property out into the water / built it up. Also, the lack of geo-tubes on the west side of the channel has caused erosion and the ones that WERE there have opened up spilling their contents (sand) out in the bay. The western portion of the channel is fairly straight. The area is shoaling in from the Pirates Cove subdivision and across the channel towards the state park. All markers were placed on the edge of the channel it is not advisable to run outside the channel markers.

I figured the concrete structures were old duck blinds...maybe not, but we used to hunt out of concrete blinds on Pipkins Ranch(Sabine Pass area)back in the late 70s....I've been going past the concrete before turning west heading to the pass...my boat doesn't like it skinny. Thanks for the info...I will definately be inspecting your work by Friday at the latest.
