  • rays, jellyfish and sharks oh my!

Just want to tell the new guys to BE CAREFUL and SMART out there.

6 foot bull shark recently caught in the bay, jellyfish EVERYWHERE and stingrays all over the place.

Was wading East of 8 mile along the S. Deer Island Reefs and was standing on a rockpile and saw a stingray so big swim by, I got out and went home.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen some big rays but this one.... GOOD GOD.It was in 2 ft water and I couldn't make out the tips of its wings but the rise in between the eyes was 1 foot, no less.... thing was huge.

There are rays all over the bay, Jellyfish are thick too! Good post... If your wading wear some pants. Wear your ray guards. TTF Sting Ray kit is a good addition to any waders arsenal.

Watch out for the idiots also-they will be burning through your fishing and have no clue. Also, watch out in Jamaica Beach-pretty sure patrol boat will be very active-watch the empty beers and drinking!!! They will stop every boat sometimes. Check all your safety gear, have registration card and fire ext and vests.

What about Barn Owls I'll be fishing at night this weekend....are the barn owls bad this time of year? I'll be in the surf...surely hate to get bitten by a barn owl with this full moon.

Yep, goin' to be a zoo out there this weekend, fo' sho', in more ways than one. FYI Household ammonia works well on the man-o-war stings. Just pour it on & hang on...it'll do the trick.

I quit wading Sportsman's Road when I saw some rays big enough to wrap their tail around your waist and bury their barb in your stomach!!! OK slight exaggeration but really 5-6 foot wingspan monsters. I used to catch a lot of trout there but I figured they could have that spot. Too many others for me to fish.

                TouchE!

NO EXAGGERATION! I wish I were exaggerating but I don't think the stingray shuffle would have done JACK $$HIZZLE. I think this one was probably a uncle or aunt, second cousin thrice removed, kissin' cousin of the one that ended Steve Irwin's life.

NEVER... EVER EVER going back there... unless i have steel reinforced boots and waders on.

Yes, please wear your pants-no nekkid fishermen allowed-fisaherladies-OK to go pantsl

PETA says they are your friends and you should kill yourself before harming such a pretty, harmless, wonderful and friendly creature. They are like "Sea Kittens". Why be ascared of them-jump on them and ride em like a porpoise-barb/smarb, they are your friends, just like black widow and brown recluse spiders.

As Coe said -PLEASE wear your pants-no "dinky" showing allowed-uggghhh. Fisherladies-please do not wear your pants!!

I don't know what the TTF stingray kit contains. When I was hit a couple times surfing. The lifeguards filled a 5 gal bucket with barely tollerable hot water and a disinfectant. The super hot water helps dilute the venom.

3-4ft bull shark came within 5 ft of me during the blackjack tourney! Did not bother me, but it did wake me up!

I always wear Ray guards regardless, they are cheap and it is not worth wading without them. I also recommend long pants all the time as well!

This is a good subject & post... Lots if advice & information... There is always going to be stingrays, jellyfish & sharks in the water... When you enter their enviromemt all you can do is the best you can... PPE sometimes isn't enough, you never know it may be just enough... Its cheap like Mike said so wear it... Long paints is a must 20 bucks at academy... Be safe and keep safety in mind if you get to comfortable in the water bad things can happen...

But Robalo has the best idea of them all............................................... ..............
