Here's the story finally.
I headed out Friday around sunset and did what I could to clean up the place while waiting for my old coaching buddy and his son to arrive from Waco. When I got there, it was beautiful, with glass like water and a fantastic lightning show far off to the West and the North. It was an amazing show until it reached me. Then it was a bit scary. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Explorer21 and FunkShoalBrutha getting weather reports. The storm finally passed around 1:30 or so, and everything got calm again.
Jason and Jace Cummings finally got there at 2:30am. Jace is now 10 and I hadn't seen him since he was 3, so it's safe to say he's grown up a bunch. I coached football and baseball with Jason for 3 years and he still tells me that he never had a better assistant. That's a pretty high compliment for me. When I got them out to the camp, it was plain that neither of them expected to be quite so "out there", but they seemed to like it a bunch. We had a beer and hit the sack.
It seemed like 20 minutes later and Jason was waking me up to go fishing. It was 6:30. Ouch! So I took them to my redfish hole and we proceeded to catch 2 hardheads and 2 stingrays. Just then, VJER called and said it was time to pick him up. So back to the camp I took them and grabbed VJER and more new cabinets at the ramp. We got the cabinets on and Jason and Jace had some father/son time on the dock. The weather deteriorated and I hit the sack for a nap. As usual, I have little knowledge of what went on while I was out, but I do remember a loooong exchange wherein Jace caught a 22 inch trout, but wouldn't hold it for a picture. Kid's been hangin' with momma too much
(Just kiddin' Cherri!)
I finally awoke thinkin' we could head to the boil, but it was rainin' and ugly. I did see a clearing to the West and declared that we would leave in 30 minutes. I'm pretty proud about the fact that the rain ended exactly when I thought it would (Pretty much the first time for the weekend I was right about anything) LOL. Feeling much refreshed from my bayou nap, we arrived at Sea Isle.
Primer guided us to the marina and as soon as I got there, I saw TXSHOCKWAVE leaving. Darnit! Wanted to hang witcha James
It was amazing to get there and see so many people I hadn't met before. It was great to meet so many new folks and of course there were many old friends as well. I tried to introduce my guests to everyone. The first batch of bugs came out and I was like, "What is THIS? THIS IS NOT LUREFISHER'S USUAL STUFF!" I thought perhaps the crawfish had been watered down and I was afraid they'd all be like that. My fears were unfounded as the next batch was excellent! Talk about good stuff and a great time.
We left with full bellies and jolly memories. VJER headed back to Angleton and our new guests loaded into the boat with Jace and Jason. Torque and his son Ryan, who had both assisted in taking down the Ghost Camp were out for their first trip since then. The weather had turned glorious following the boil and would be spectacular the rest of the weekend. Everyone went fishin' as I did some front porch sittin'. We got the lights hooked up and I cooked up a semi-unnecessary dinner. Everyone did some fishin' and even I picked up the rod long enough to box a legal trout. I faded eventually and left the dock to the others. They ended up boxing 9 trout for the night. THe action was slow, but steady.
Of course I woke up late on Sunday and got breakfast started, but Jason and Jace had to drive back to Waco, so I took them to the dock around 10am. After I got back I got breakfast finished and Ibtsoom showed along with his buddy in time to dig in. He also re-routed a light switch! Sorry I put you to work on your social call Mike.
Torque and Ryan had to leave shortly after Mike and company and I was left alone to enjoy the beautiful day.
Gosh was it nice. I didn't get out until sunset as usual. If it's this good now, how much better will it be when we have the place finished? - Sandy
