  • Buff Question

I am about to buy a Buff to cover up my face when fishing this summer. My question is, is it worth buying the UV rated Buff or will the regular one work? I feel like if you are covered up, you're covered up. What are yall's expierences?

i liked mine alot, especially kayaking... still put on sunscreen underneath since i wouldnt wear it the whole time through out the day.. so i dont think it mattered..

UV rays do penetrate clothing, but obviously not nearly the exposure you get on bare skin. I think that would be your call, wearing sun screen under it (even a UV rated one) is always a good idea. If you are worried, Id go ahead and get the UV one. But then again, this is coming from someone who never wears sunscreen or tries to cover up very much. I really need to start.

The one I have (but rarely wear) isnt UV rated, its actually a really thin cotton one that is flame retardant, butit was free and has worked good the few times I have worn it and stays cool. My $.02.

I got places on my face and hands that say you should pertect yourself from the sun.

All those years of outdoor work. Prove that you should protect yourself against the sun's harmful ray's. I still do not wear nothing but a hat when I go out. Though I do carry sunscreen on the boat at all times. This is for my crew..and others.

I have a couple of the UV ones and have never gotten burned through them. The cost diff is negligible so get the UV ones.

I religiously put Bull Frog highest SPF I can find on my nose... I don't wear the buff headwear I hear it work & will be using it this summer as I start to spend much more time outdoors. Sunscreen all the time I lower SPF tanner I get but I hate getting burned and hate sun spots lol

I wear my Buffs just about every time I go fishing and I even got some gloves from Orvis to cover up. It seems to do the job and I usually wear sunscreen under it anyways. It's breathable, and it cuts that wind out really well during the Spring and Winter. During the Summer, you can douse it with cold water to keep cool. I just figured that $22 bucks for a Buff is more of an investment for my health since anything is worth avoiding a 12 round bout with Skin Cancer that you might not win.

That's my opinion.... and No, I'm not a representative for Buffs!

Have you ever been sun burned through your clothes? I have not. I think it is more of a marketing thing.

Anyone that doesn't wear sunscreen is either very short sighted, in denial, or just plain ol' stupid.
I'll be 60 this summer and spent my entire life fishing and surfing.
I have pre-cancers burned off my face constantly and the backs of my hands are wrecked. The skin is so thin it tears very easily....

A good friend of mine died recently from skin cancer and it wasn't pretty. From diagnosis to buried was four months!
