  • A sad time for all in the south

I am writing this because i am so pissed right now with uncle sam and bp. Really this is all we got.. if right now a bomb went off in Washington. The goverment would depoly tens of thousand of people to face the the problem head on. But when it is somthing that is effecting wildlife and are mother earth they just dont care. its like the think it will just go awaly. This is a sad time for us who live in the south. we are going to lose a lot of the gulf because of this. It may wipe out 1/2 of all marine life in the gulf if they cant stop it. And even when this is over for decades we will have this hanging around in hideing waiting to kill anything that lives there. I have fished off of vince in it is some of the best tuna fishing anywhere. I hope after this, oil is treated with more respect for how it can kill rather than how it can grow a country.

I feel your pain. Yes this is far the worst disaster that we have all faced. Speaking in the sense that this is a natural disaster caused by man. Mans greed is the killer of mankind-D.B
Why the hell..is this thing not capped? I mean they have the tech to put it down there so..why the hell is it still pumping more and more every minute. As we all eat drink and watch the tube or screw around with our PC's. This is not going to end like the other spills. Oh no..friends..this is going on and on. Send the sub's down there and get it caped once and for all! I do not want to hear excuses! The truth is much more serious then the media tells us all. This could ruin fishing all together if nothing happens quick! Do not worry about fishing poles all you will need is nets! To pick up all the dead seafood that yon want. Yes folk's ..it is that bad! I am also very po-ed! Here's one..is this the way the new admin is going to shut down rec fishing? Stupidity has a habit of getting it's way!

      Leak

The media is much of the problem. Though this can be bad it's not going to wipe out the entire Gulf of Mexico. It's not even close to being the worse spill the Gulf has seen. This is not the first time this has happened and it won't be the last. Lets hope and pray that they can get it stopped sooner than later. Not sure why you would be upset with the Goverment and BP, they are both doing everything possible to get this under control.
This is the first time anything like this has happen on a deepwater well but some of the smartest people in the world are working on it. Gater

        listen

Do everything you can is not saying that it was not leaking at first and the goverment trusting a company that anit even here in the usa. The goverment needs to wake up and protect are land from **** like this. example why did it take a diaster to get the goverment to go inspect every rig in the gulf? Maybe now the dont trust the money hungery gaints anymore. There is no way to clean oil up even with the exxon tanker only 9% ever got recovered. it still is there today if you just dig a hole deep inthe sand you will find oil from the tanker, black and shiney the same it look the day it enter the water. If you love fishing than this should hurt everyone. This anit a boat of oil this is a well that hold millions of barrels of oil. if they dont fix it this could really **** alot of **** up includeing fishing and the fishing and fun in the sun for are kids and there kids.

              Leak

No one never said the thing was not leaking. It was not until the rig sank did they realize they had a problem. Once the leak was found they started cleanup efforts right away. Your right, BP is not an American Company but neither is Shell or Chevron. BP is the largest lease holder in the Gulf and many of it's deepwater projects are joint ventures with Exxon which sent equipment and people to help. Do you really think the Goverment is going to inspect every rig in the Gulf, do know how many rigs are in the Gulf. 98% of this spill has'nt even reach the shore and the media has everyone in a panic that tourism, fishing, and our enviroment are doomed. Like I said, we have seen much worse and us and the enviroment survived.

(BP did not build the containment devices before the spill because it "seemed inconceivable" the blowout preventer would fail) good thinking ahead.

i have never said the US want surive. why would this kill america. I am talking aabout local people that no one ever gives a **** about. I have only fished there so i cant relate what them people are going threw but at lest i am welling to listen to what they are saying and never listen to the news only the people who are there in the middle of it. look i hope you are right and they fix it in nothing happens that bad, but you always have to plan for the wrost and try everything you can do to pervent it from happing. That is why i posted that qoute from a BP interview.

well from wat i've heard this IS the worst oil spill in american history. that platform that sank was the "cutting edge" as they called it in deep offshore drilling.so how could something like this happen..???? those rich bastards where cuttin corners.... costs 1 million a day to lease and run that rig so they where nickel and diming. PATHETIC. like he said........GREED. they do have rovers down there repeatedly trying to get the leaks capped but have been unsuccessful so far.... however you look at it its all fukkd up man...... I do feel very sorry for louisiana, and florida...... we where fortunate it wasnt further west and or south or we would REALLY be up in arms over all this....

                      I agree Gater,
The media is a big part of what is ******* up this country. They'll get this handled as soon as possible because it's in no ones best interest not to. The Gulf will be fine. I do think it's funny how the media all moved to Dauphin Island because they couldn't show a beach in Venice. What's not funny is how this whole accident has become about the environmental impact and very little about the men who died.

No one loves fishing out of Venice more than I do, but unless you are rowing your canoe offshore after carrying it on your back down to Venice then you are part of the problem. The valves that prevent this from happening have a high failure rate. The depths that they are having to drill in are unprecedented.
We in Texas have escaped (for the most part) the recession that the rest of the country has been hit with mainly because of the oil industry.
There are coal mine fires that have been burning for decades. We lost 19 Americans in mines last month.
Unless you are ready to deplete the forrest to heat your homes, and own your own land to grow you own food supply, and you are willing to do all of this with shovels and horse drawn plows, then pray for the lost lives and the engineers that will figure out how to stop this oil flow.

If it werent for big oil, (BP Amoco included) we'd all be speaking German right now.

Those guys are doing exactly what they should be doing right now and the last thing needed is government intervention..And trust me, they dont cut corners when they are spending THAT kind of $$$..The media is LOVING every minute of it. This thing would have to continue for another 2 or 3 months to get in the ballpark of Valdez.

Im not saying its not tragic but dont let the media and the government and every lawyer between here and Fla fool you.

Cost has nothing to do with it....they were less than 24 hrs from pulling off the well. BP has Billion's and Billion's invested in the deepwater off Louisiana, the last thing they wanted is for something like this to happen. The same with the rig owner, most of them people working on that rig were from that area, you are not going to take shorcuts and risk your life for BP because the rig is costing them a million a day. I don't think it happened like that, remember BP only had 6 or 7 employees on the rig.
