I got off work early enuf Friday to fish until dark-took Robalo from Brian’s lift and hit south shoreline cove. Limited on reds by 6:30, water temp 76, Brian called and was about 15 minutes away so headed to his place and got him and went back-nothing-they weren’t hungry anymore. Saturday am that front came through-winds were NW at 15-20-headed to Brian’s in skeeter-was kind of wet run, but the Triathlon was going on and hundreds of bikes clogged road, so skeeter was best way over. Brian and I took Robalo to north shoreline-right away, brother Brian hooks a trout then a gafftop-then nada, water was off color. Hit a protected cove, bait and fish popping all over but no takers until about 6, then Brian hooks 2 keeper reds and I get 1. Headed in for dinner, but outta beer, so it’s almost dark-maybe 30 minutes left and I take Skeeter towards Jamaica Beach from Sea Isle and see a boat adrift about ½ mile NE of Snake Island and they’re yelling, so I pull up and there are 6 folks in it-2 little kids, 3 adults and a granny-no lights, no life jackets, no anchor (well they had a 3# mushroom anchor that wouldn’t hold boat in 5 mph wind, much less 15+ in 1-2’ waves)-they were stern into waves and said they were ankle deep in boat-a USCG helo was circling-they had already called Coast Guard and helicopter was gonna lift em and I guess leave boat adrift?? Anyway waved off CG but she (the mother) had em on her phone and they asked to talk to me-they said get those folks in my boat and I did and I told CG I will tow em in and they flew off and I towed their boat into Sea Isle and my brother took them to their truck at Terramar and helped em load boat. I told those folks to buy a real anchor and make sure they have life vests before ever going out again. After dropping em at ramp, I went back to my house and got beer, drove my truck to Brian’s and had steaks and redfish! Yesterday was a blowout, so stayed in.
