  • Jamaica Beach Thief

My buddy Mark lives on a canal in JB. He keeps a couple baitwells in the water for crab, shrimp, etc. Lately he has been noticing that there were much LESS bait in there than before. I told him it was probably Jerry Niekamp coming over for a late snack after a night of drinking. Around midnight Sunday he caught the thief on film. It was a sea otter! I will keep trying to post the pic as I am having some issues with it. Neither of us have ever seen one in the Galveston Bay complex but he had heard there was a small population.

Has anyone else seen these guys before?

Yep, saw one at SLP not too long ago. Had a discussion here about them.

i think the otter might be offended by that comment and comparison.

That weren't me-the animal in the picture has too much hair to be me!!

I resemble that remark about "smell"!!

BTW, tell Mark I added half the shrimpies in his bucket last Sunday since my barrel is clogged from algae.

How cool is that? Let alone getting pics of him. I wonder if he's by himself? I thought those things were pretty rare around these parts, but like all wild animals, they move around and do what it takes to survive. Not to mention feeding him !!!
