That is total bullsheet story. Maybe on the mainland but there arent any hogs on the island.....and hogs dont attack like some grizzly bear...what a total bunch of hyped up crap. and NOBODY has been around nor shot more hogs than I have...what a joke. Im not putting that statement up against the women type hogs robalo has known however.

Only reason I believe the major premise of this story, if not the details, is the same thing happened to me in La. The darn thing only gave up when I got deeper than he wanted to swim. From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

Hog swiming sure, hogs attacking a gigger..........ok you get atacked enough to go to the hospital to get stiches but before that...hummmm lets take the hog and load em up to skin later after the stiches. In the pic no bandaids or stiches on the arms and no blood stains at the stab wounds, the photos taken at 6:30 in the afternoon!!! I think he when home after hard night of hunting and and dreamed up a fishing story. Whatever!Popper in the morning

Ya know, the more I look at this story, the more I skeptical I become. Not saying it didn't happen, but :
1). Could it be an April Fools joke (issue April 7)
2). no bandages showing
3). he would have had to be some dancer to hold a flounder light (one hand) & gig 2 attacking hogs with the other without dropping the light. Ever tried that? Not me.
4). Don't know about hogs too much. Would they attack like that?
5). If you were up all night fighting hogs enough to get cut up that bad & then to the hospital I think you would rest a bit before cleaning the stinkin' things (pm pic).
6). If some have seem 'em in the daytime, then there's got to be some numbers to be had at night. Don't they make themselves scarce in the daylight?
7). Like all wild animals, they do move (swim) around looking for food & do what it takes to survive (musta been hungry to attack like that).
8). Just my .02

The story sounds a little bit far fetched to me and if you know me I can tell some tall tales............
As far as hogs being in that area, I'd have to say sure they are. Some one said there were no hogs on Galveston Island and that may be true but I doubt it. I know there are hogs on Pelican Island and if they are there, you can sure bet they can be on Galveston.
I've had a lone boar attack for no good reason. I was not chasing him, running him with dogs or anything. I did wake him up from an afternoon nap which I guess pizzed him off. He rolled out of bed and came straight at me, but my 1911 calmed him down.......

you guys must not have much experience around hogs. They are and can be very aggressive. I know for a FACT there are hogs out there. From SLP all the way down past the Colorado. They were prob hungry as hell and thought the dude was some type of mammal stuck out in the water. I have heard of hogs attacking young livestock and yearling deer. BTW we have killed a hog while duck hunting in Xmas bay. No B/S. New years day, 2009. Buddy was looking for a downed bird and scared it up from behind a brushpile. Hit it at about 15 yds with #2 steel.

Looks like the story is a hoax for sure. I wonder if more people would have believed it if the location was different. From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

Ok, let's review some of the evidence from the article.
1.) They say the other person was drunk and asleep "in the truck". This implies they drove in a vehicle to the area.
At SLP you can only drive a vehicle two places: The Brazoria county park side or the Galveston side by the bridge. I've never personally seen a hog on either side of the pass in 30yrs. Back over on the mainland side sure, hogs are there. But I can gauran-damn-tee they didn't walk over there!
2.) The man in the picture is an older if not elderly man. I seriously doubt he single handedly fought two wild boars to the death with a single flounder gig.
I mean come on......I did fall off the turnip truck but it dang sure wasn't yesterday.
The entire story is B.S.West End Anglers - You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
