X2, I have an all flounder must be broiled rule,lol. But the last few years I have been throwing back most of my fish. Don't like to eat trout, so why kill them? If I do keep a red it will be eaten and not frozen.

The point he made to us, those that fish regularly, is that as our sport increases in popularity, so do the effects we have on our fisheries. And that we ( as a group) have to be proactive and show certain levels of restraint as we grow as fishermen.

I can see that ... some folks are meat-haulers and think they have a right to all the fish they can catch. If you put too much pressure on the fish, you'll end up with shorter limits like the 5-trout limit in the lower Laguna Madre.

Many also advocate a "slot limit" so avoid taking the reproducers or too many dinks. This has worked well with the snook in the Port Isabel area - so well, they might expand the slot a few inches larger.

Have I done some shady things in the past? Well, I have dipped bait shrimp at night (only daytime shrimping allowed) and I have "fished the ticket" of somebody else on a snapper boat - well the poor fella was chumming over the side of the boat pretty bad, seasick, so I caught him a few fish. Still illegal though.

As to the reds, some of us throw back nearly all. Sometimes we fish for "dots," a sport. One gal caught a red with like 5 dots on it, remarkable. Just take a picture and count the dots, very fun, honor system. I've lost a few rounds at the bar because of them dang dots!

I don't get to go as much as I'd like and between parents, GF and buddies, I usually keep what I catch.

I generally keep what I can eat before it gets freezer burn. If the freezer is full, I'll throw them all back. If not, I'll keep what I catch up to the limits.

Every legal flounder I catch goes in the box..........momma's favorite and when momma is happy everyone is happy.

Trout, I'll keep a couple of small ones if it's been a while and no fish on the table but that is rare as there are generally flounder in the freezer.

Reds, love to catch them but not much for eatting them. The all go back unless someone with me want some or I hurt one and then I find it a good home.

BTW you can catch a limit, without keeping a limit.

As far as what I think about what others are doing, to each his/her own as long as it is legal!

I don't keep any trout. I don't keep any reds unless I know someone that wants it. I don't eat fish typically....

A lot of friends and family love flounder so I'll always keep those. Hardly ever get a limit. I walk and gig a lot during the summer but don't ever gig a limit I usually take 2 then head back to truck if I even get that many b/c of conditions. I usually try to gig 1 or 2 nights a month always on weekends.

I fished with that guide a few weeks ago. The trout bite has been a lot tougher in his areas the past 2 years, either for drought, over fishing, hurricanes...

When many of us were younger, we measured our success by the numbers and as we mature in our sport, it's just not as important as it used to be.

I keep'em all! Very seldom keep flounder, but Reds and Trout are going home. I only release Trout if it's over 25 inches. Gater

If I'm here in Texas, I don't catch all that much. Fishing here is not easy. I'll think I've found a great spot, but it's so hit or miss. I've got spots in La. that produce no matter the conditions. I haven't found that here. I get my meat hauls every Summer back home. I don't often keep or eat trout here. I'll keep a couple hundred or so in La. (Not all on the same trip, just 25 a trip.) I will keep reds up to 25 inches, but when they get over 20 inches they're not all that good to eat. The best reds are from 15-19 inches. The good people at TPWD don't think so though, so I get all the 16 inchers I can in La. and bring them back here. I don't mind flounder if I catch a good one, but I'll usually save them for people that really love them. I throw most flounder back if they're under 16 inches.

So while I do eat a lot of fish, most of them come from La. I don't see anything wrong with keeping your limit every time if you're good enough to catch your limit. I'm plenty good enough at home, but not here.

I keep some here and there. Mainly redfish for the grill.. Trout occasionally for trout dip or if were gonna have a fish fry or if my neighbors beg

Unless I am going to cook them that night(which is rare occasion), I throw mine back. I love to catch them, but hate to clean them.....
