  • This Weekend!

Is my first fishing trip of the year! I'm planning on doing some surf fishing. I have very little experience doing this type of fishing. I have a friend who does it regularly and will kayak his line 200 or so yards out and drop it, then yak back.

Anyone have any advice on this topic? What bait would you use? Either way I have the fever and need to spend as many weekends this summer trying to find the cure.

I'm usually around the Jamaica beach area so maybe I will see some of you around.

We do this a lot during the Summer main thing to watch out for is the seaweed that will move your lines. We use 6oz -8oz spider weights and will kayak the baits out past the 3rd sand bar then bring them back. I opt to not use the Kayak I just wade out there and give it a good toss. I use 15' rod penn squider with 40lb braid to 30lb mono top shot to my wire leader or 100lb leader (depends on what I'm fishing for) I usually catch my own bait in the surf so its fresh and LIVELY! If you want to use dead bait I'd go with Shad. I usually will catch a bunch and use cut bait I like to use 1-2 hooks per rod just depends on how many rods and space I'm working with.
