            HellifIknow!

Went to SLP this morning. Big uglies 1 - Moonpie 0. Lost my good anchor too!

Trailered up and went to Galveston channel.
Fished by the drawbridge. Big Uglies 1 - Moonpie 0 again.
Went to to Boat Cut. Big uglies 1 - Moonpie 0 AGAIN!

            Gave up and went home.
With Moonpie strong is the skunk scent.

Dang Moonpie we're gonna hafta get you outta the hole here. Big uglies aren't my favorite fish to put a stink the the pan. But when the white yucca flowers, the black drum are running solid and they pull like dang near an amberjack.

Now find you some of them old crab traps and load them up with chicken necks, and catch some good size bluecrabs. Come on, you know the drill, throw them medium to big bluecrab in the deer cooler on a lot of ice and they go to sleep. When they's sleeping good, rip off the top shell, split them in half, and sink a #6 size or so hook into the back meat real good. The legs should be still a-twitchin'!

Them black drum are still cold, I admit, so you have to frisky them up, some just-almost-dead crab that's still got some twitch. Now us backwater feeshermen sometimes drift fish for them if the wind and current it right. Gotta have a good tide movement and some incoming or outgoing current toward the top of the tide change. Bounce a pretty good size rounded weight off the bottom, get's them all frisky and movin'. You might get saddle blanket flounder to go for your half bluecrab offerin', too. Cast at the bank of a deeper channel and bounce that buddy nice and slow, every second or two gentle, and drift awhile - a bass boat electric motor works sometimes.

Yup, sometimes you have to get around a corner in the channel and all the sudden something wants to bust your trout pole in half - that's the pull of a plus-25# brute. You better be holding on good or have a strong rod holder. Might be four or fie big uglies in that hole. It's all strategy I guess but if these 16 year olds can do it, so can us old pffharts.
Now git back out there and kick some A, pard.

                  MP:

Didn't hit the end of the jetties or near the bend of the north Jetty-that's near where I get-sometimes Fleenor Flats-but Fleener's changed a bunch-used to be 12' hump with 20' all around it and ya get upcurrent from hump and let that crab roll downcurrent with a 1-2 OZ. egg weight on an incoming tide.

Was tide moving at all for ya?

Tide was moving out at SLP while I was there(approx 09:00).

Tide seem to be pretty much dead while near drawbridge(11:00)

Got to Boat Cut about 13:00. Tide was slack at first but then started ROARING in thru the cut.

Don't know what or where "Fleenor's" is?

Galveston channel isn't my normal area of operations. Was real foggy too.
MP tear ashing around in the fog is baaad juju.

MP - we have been at the Boat Cut and didn't catch nada or any BUs. It wasn't until we moved out into approx 20-25' of water near the cut and then it was on like a light switch...just trying to help. If that is what you were doing, please disregard this message - they weren't there.

Should have had RC with you.He can make enough noise clomping around and whining so all the boats and ships can hear you.I think his whining is CG approved. This should drag RC out of his cave LOL

Moonpie: Fleener Flats is about halfway down the inside of S. Jetty-it is between Channel and rocks-about 1/2 way also and is a hump-years ago it came up to about 10-12' and was surrounded by 20', but storms have changed it up some but was still there last year but deeper now. It shows on hooksetter map and most GPS chips. I anchor upcurrent south of hump and drop the crab and let current carry bait some and then enjoy BEER until the "bump, bump".
