Dang cool Shannon! I like what ya did. I also like your idea of pvc over the cord-I've lost 3 lights from folks hooking the dang cord and water intrusion.

As far as "boiling water", can ya make em with lower intensity?

Also what are ya charging for them?

Do they have ballasts like my merc vapor or what and are you putting a light sensor on them so on/off at daylight?

This looks ideal for any deep water canals... The brightness looks great compared to the other light.

Green Light

Hey Shannon,
I admire your effort.. I'm in Sea Isle as well. Years ago I used a big green Whiskey bottle and inserted a light and plugged it all up with epoxy. It worked great for a couple of months..LOL. Recently I had 3 commercial green lights in my canal and the outlet got fried with a broken water pipe. Even though the outlet was GFCI the lights all fried too. Let me know how they work cuz I need to replace at least a couple. Thanks...

Robalo - The heat given off by these bulbs shouldn't be an issue. The water got too hot only when the light was in a bucket with just a few inches of water above it. The boiling only happened when water was trapped against the face of the bulb. I vented the aluminum reflector to keep the water between the bulb and green stained glass from overheating.

These bulbs don't need ballast. They are halogen and run directly out of a standard 120 volt outlet. I wouldn't leave these lights on a light sensor like mercury vapor. These bulbs have a short life rating so I'll probably only use them when I'm down there fishing with the overhead lights.

FA - I don't know about an adequate size generator but somebody here will. This is the same bulb used for overhead fishing lights, which are also run off generators in remote areas.
